In 2001, Hansen Prove Me Right

This map is from Hansen’s 2001 paper, which has been deleted from the NASA web site.

It shows that US rural stations cooled -.05C from 1900 to 1999, and that urban stations were 0.31C warmer. The obvious conclusion being that the US is cooling, and needs to be cooled further to account for UHI.

So what does NASA and NOAA do? They adjust the other direction – by about 0.8C, to create a fake warming trend.

Almost No Change In Arctic Ice Extent Since Yesterday

Green shows gain since yesterday. Red shows loss.

Alarmists have a big problem now. Strong winds in the Laptev Sea have been giving them more of a break than they deserve, but the ice there is already pushed back close to the pole, and temperatures there are below freezing. Without some freak southerly winds in the Chukchi Sea, it is going to be very difficult for Reggie to produce much more ice loss this year.

Arctic Returning To 1980’s Conditions?

During the 1980’s there was a lot of old, thick ice in the Chukchi and East Siberian Seas.

Starting in 1988, the winds shifted, and the older ice began getting rapidly pushed out into the North Atlantic. By about 10 years ago, essentially all of the older ice was gone from the East Siberian Sea, which led to the series of low summer extents beginning in 2007.

About five years ago, the winds reversed, and older ice is again being retained in the western Arctic. The ice is circulating clockwise and may start advancing into the East Siberian Sea, which would mean a return to the large summer extents of the 1980s.

Getting Rid Of The 1940’s Blip

Our Climategate buddies told us that they wanted to get rid of the 1940’s temperature blip, without even knowing why it existed.

ScreenHunter_1872 Aug. 11 08.22

And that they did. The graph below shows the progression of data tampering since 1981 of the global surface (land only) temperature record. In 1981, Hansen showed strong global cooling from the 1930’s through the 1970’s. He got rid of most of that cooling by 2001, and now the same interval shows strong warming.

The 2001 and 2014 data sets are located here:

2001 version : wayback.archive.org/……./FigA.txt
2014 version : data.giss.nasa.gov/gistemp/graphs_v3/Fig.A.txt

At the time, there was a unanimous consensus that the Earth was cooling, but James Hansen is just plain smarter than the NASA scientists in the 1960s – who were still able to put a man on the moon.

Arctic Ice Concentration Up To Nearly 100%

A large high pressure system over the Arctic has compacted the sea ice and reduced extent over the past few days. It has also increased concentration up to nearly 100%, which means that almost all sunlight over the ice pack is now being reflected back into space.

Learning To Think Like A Maryland Progressive

There are no hunting or fishing stores here in Columbia, MD. The Dick’s Sporting Goods store doesn’t have a hunting or fishing section, though they do in “all their other stores.”

Progressives are more than happy to eat meat from an animal which was raised in miserable conditions and met a miserable violent death in a slaughter house, but the thought of someone killing an animal for food, is just too offensive to them.

NASA Has Nearly Doubled Post-1940 Global Warming – Through Post-2001 Data Tampering

My focus is normally on data tampering to the US temperature record, but our friends at NOAA and NASA have been equally busy tampering with the global temperature record. They did a huge amount of damage to global temperatures prior to 2001, but the graph below just shows the post-2001 tampering.

GISFigAChanges2001-2014

Note that in the 2001 version, there was a little over 0.3C warming from 1940 to 2000, and now there is almost 0.6 warming during that same time period.

2001 version : wayback.archive.org/……./FigA.txt
2014 version : data.giss.nasa.gov/gistemp/graphs_v3/Fig.A.txt

They accomplished this spectacular feat of data corruption, through an impressive hockey stick of cooling the past and warming the present.

1988 Climate Disruption

On June 24, 1988 – after sabotaging the air conditioning, James Hansen told Congress:

Global Warming Has Begun, Expert Tells Senate
New York Times Published: June 24, 1988

Dr. James E. Hansen of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration told a Congressional committee that it was 99 percent certain that the warming trend was not a natural variation but was caused by a buildup of carbon dioxide and other artificial gases in the atmosphere.

June 24, 1988 was a hot day in DC during the hottest summer of the past 30 years in the US. But something strange was going on with the weather. Temperatures just a few miles away were quite cool. Beltsville, MD was 95 degrees that day, but Laurel (a short bike ride away) was only 82 degrees. And the following day, Beltsville was only 79 degrees.

“The clearest way into the Universe is through a forest wilderness.”

John Muir said

The clearest way into the Universe is through a forest wilderness.

I spend hours a day in the forests here in Maryland. Just spent an hour listening to the amazing chorus of Cicadas. This weekend has been absolutely perfect here in Maryland, except that CO2 has turned everything upside down

Fortunately, we have something exciting happening next week, to make up for the 0.0001 mole fraction increase in CO2 over the past century.
