According to NOAA, the winter of 2011-2012 was the third most extreme on record in the Northeastern US

This is beyond absurd, because there was essentially no extreme weather that winter. I was living in Columbia, Maryland and did not have a car. I rode my bicycle every day. There were never any weather conditions which interfered with my cycling for more than an hour or two.

Below is the summary for the winter. Temperatures varied between 13F and 70F. There were no strong winds, or very heavy rain or snow events. The weather was almost picture perfect.

While doing research 12 or 13 years ago, I met Jim Hansen, the scientist who in 1988 predicted the greenhouse effect before Congress. I went over to the window with him and looked out on Broadway in New York City and said, “If what you’re saying about the greenhouse effect is true, is anything going to look different down there in 20 years?” He looked for a while and was quiet and didn’t say anything for a couple seconds. Then he said, “Well, there will be more traffic.” I, of course, didn’t think he heard the question right. Then he explained, “The West Side Highway will be under water. And there will be tape across the windows across the street because of high winds. And the same birds won’t be there. The trees in the median strip will change.” Then he said, “There will be more police cars.” Why? “Well, you know what happens to crime when the heat goes up.”

throughout the world, concern about climate change has plummeted to new lows. Ironically, this is happening at the very time when the ravages caused by climate change are straightforward and accelerating. The lackadaisical attitude by the public, as registered in a recent GlobeScan poll, explains why and how radical climate change is morphing into an unstoppable destructive force. People do not care enough to influence the politics that are necessary to stop the prospect of Armageddon!

Catastrophe could occur quickly, according to Professor Stephen Pacala, Director, Princeton Environmental Institute, “There is a class of almost instantaneous climate change that I call ‘monsters behind the door.’ I call them ‘monsters’ because were they to occur today, they would be catastrophic.”

Vostok, Antarctica averages about -65F. Their warmest day since 2004 averaged -10F. Their coldest day was September 16, 2012 – and averaged -118F.

Base Bernardo O’Higgins is right at the tip of the Antarctica Peninsula, which NASA says is the fastest warming place on Earth.

Weather Underground has records there going back to 2004, which show that the base has cooled about one degree since the start of records.

Note that summers have gotten much cooler.
