In a December 2018 article, NASA claimed that Arctic sea ice had lost two-thirds of its thickness since 1958.

That claim is simple enough to check out.  In 1958, Arctic sea ice was 7 feet, or two meters thick. Scientists were forecasting an ice-free Arctic within a generation.

On the date of the NASA article, Arctic sea ice also averaged about two meters thick – indicating little or no change since 1958.

In the 1985 DOE Report, Vinnikov showed that Arctic sea ice declined sharply until the century low in the mid-1950s, and then started to increase again.

Vinnikov extended his numbers in the 1990 IPCC report.

A gradual increase in area of the northern circumpolar vortex, the massive flow of frigid air around the Arctic, has been recorded by Drs. Angell and Korshover. In 1976 its southern’ extent was the greatest in 10 years and last winter it was 1 percent larger than in any previous winter observed.

Snow and ice cover in the Northern Hemisphere have varied greatly but there has been a net increase according to a satellite photograph analysis by Dr George J. Kukla of Columbia University’s Lamont?Doherty Geological Observatory. This has been most marked in the spring when so highly reflective a cover returns much solar energy into space at a time of intense solar radiation.

It appears that NASA simply made up the 1958 number, and assumed that no one would do any fact checking.

The snowiest day on record in Boulder is 22 inches.  We are getting close to that.

We are now up to 19 inches, three inches short of the record.

CO2 levels have reached 408 PPM, and the press says people need breathing protection.

If you ride a train, you are inhaling 2,800 PPM CO2.

People spend many hours or days at a time indoors at CO2 levels over 1,000 PPM – but if they go outside in 408 PPM apparently they need a gas mask. I’m spending Thanksgiving weekend in Estes Park, where all that excess CO2 is burning the place up.

This week in 1938, massive forest fires were burning up movie stars homes in California – and Britain was hit by 108 MPH winds which killed more than a dozen people. The Coast Guard was rescuing climate refugees who fled into the ocean to escape the flames.

“The Conversation” has banned anyone who tells the truth about climate, and only allows people who write incoherent nonsense like the article below.

The author says global warming is destabilizing the jet stream, bringing “more frequent bouts of wild weather.” Someone is waging a battle for the jet stream above his head.

Then he says these bouts have always happened, but are now milder than they used to be.

He claims we are getting worse heatwaves and droughts, but not freezes.

He then claims that the tropics are heating faster than the rest of the world – a claim which has been made about almost every place else on earth.

Finally he says that the jet stream may not be more erratic, but the climate is destabilizing anyway.

The National Climate Assessment shows the exact opposite of what he claims. Heatwaves have become much less severe.

And NOAA shows that droughts have become less severe over time.

The author used a keen combination of poor research and self-contradiction, in an effort to promote his book.

Thirty-seven percent of the US was over 70 degrees that day.

Across the entire country, the warmest November 23rds occurred from 1899 to 1915, with 1904 being the warmest.

On November 23, 1904 most of the US was over 60 degrees.

This year is quite different, with record skiing from Arizona to North Carolina.
