More Arctic Records Being Set

Besides being the shortest melt season on record, and the earliest start to winter on record, the Arctic is also seeing the fastest September ice growth on record.

Ice extent is 40% above 2012, higher than last year and about the same as 2013. Experts describe this record growth as “rapidly disappearing” or “ice-free.”

This is OT, but I needed to vent.

From CNN’s favorite climate apocalypse writer, John Sutter; article here: http://www.cnn.com/2016/09/23/opinions/sutter-debate-climate-change/index.html
Sutter writes: “I was saddened by how much these kids have to worry about climate change. “It’s hard to think about anything else when you have this massive, overarching problem,” said Aji Piper, 16. “It gives me nightmares,” said Levi Draheim, a 9-year-old who lives in coastal Florida, which he fears will flood. “Sometimes I catch myself waking up and (I’m) just screaming.”
    —————
I call the above CHILD ABUSE. What kind of sadistic pervert portrays such a future for children–and seems to take delight in (and profit from) it? These people are sick. Sutter is an idiot (he is apparently unable to find the NOAA Sea Level Trends page). I’m disgusted beyond words by this.

    End of rant.

    • Jason Calley says:

Good rant, and accurate. I have adult friends who have been infected with the CAGW meme. They tell me they are depressed and have trouble sleeping. Oh well… they are adults and (ought to) run their own lives. Children are another matter, and anyone who propagandizes children with imaginary fears is, in fact, a child abuser. Such sadistic criminals deserve punishment.

      • Steve Case says:

There are people, usually lefties, who say that telling your kids about Santa Claus and the tooth fairy is child abuse.

      • Theyouk says:

Sutter responded to me on Facebook. He clarified that the information came via Aji Piper, a 16-y.o. ‘climate activist’–who I would guess is loving the celebrity being a CAGW mouthpiece is bringing him.

Kids…brainwashing even younger kids. And the adults letting it–nay, encouraging and guiding it. Maybe even more disgusting.

        • Colorado Wellington says:

Only bourgeois reactionaries would complain about such necessary class- and climate-aware Marxist education that will steel the young Americans and finally bring about the New Soviet Man.

      • Andy DC says:

Shows that the brief late summer drop was a result of unusual storminess chopping up the ice, had absolutely nothing to do with global warming.

    • rw says:

I suppose this is one way to take your mind off other developments, such as the growing war against civilization by the jihadists and the developing tyranny within that civilization. So when these kids understand that they really don’t have a future, maybe they won’t be disappointed.

    • TI'm Robbins says:

ICE Formation is exothermic, arctic temps ALWAYS rise with rapid ice. Growth…. such bullshit, no mater what the data says, they always start storytelling and call it science . .it’s embarrassing. .

  2. LOL in Oregon says:

    Wait, wait, wait,
    This is very interesting.
Send money so we can thoroughly make sure the numbers continue to have you send money.
Besides, there are too many folk, so we need to make sure the surplus population in those very, very hot African areas don’t get electricity and are eliminated!
(so we can have all those toys mama promised us)

  3. Jim Hunt says:

All that open water between 80N and 86N that you mentioned previously is quickly gaining a thin skin:

    https://realclimatescience.com/2016/09/mark-serreze-says-sof-could-sail-to-the-north-pole/

Meanwhile it is now possible for a small yacht to circumnavigate Banks Island, if the CIS are to be believed.

What do you suppose that means Tony?

    • AndyG55 says:

Nothing to do with the wind blowing constantly away from the northern shore, hey Jimbo

Maybe you should be the hero you like to make yourself out to be and paddle your surfboard around the island.

And if the wind changes, you can winter in Mercy Bay.

The Russian maps shows it quite a bit tougher, that darker blue is “Nilas” ie surface ice.. have fun on your surfboard, Jimbo you moronic clown

      • Caleb says:

The south wind, forming the narrow polynya along the north shore of Banks Island, also crunches the ice north in Parry Channel. It also looks like gave it gave that ice a good dusting of snow. (If the Russians are right, the thin skim of ice on the polynya is likely also dusted.)

Nothing reflects the sunshine as well as fresh snow. With the days now shorter than the nights, and the days getting even shorter very rapidly, this is the final chance for the “warming sunshine” to effect open waters. But O-Bouy 14 is showing no open waters in Parry Channel.

      • Jim Hunt says:

So you reckon the Russians know Canadian waters better than the Canadians Andy?

        Have they hacked RadarSat-2?

        • AndyG55 says:

          Yawn,

The tediously boring Jimbo still hasn’t set off on his trip around Banks.

Better hurry, Jimbo, before the wind changes.

And that blue turns to pink.

          • Jim Hunt says:

It looks quite inviting in actual fact Andy.

Looks like there’s a malfunction in ren’s concentration map?

          • AndyG55 says:

            Off you go, Jimbo.

Have fun over winter when you get stuck in Mercy Bay when the wind changes.

          • Gonzo says:

You know Jim if the Northabout folks had a pair they’d turn around and circumnavigate the Arctic west to east. I mean from they mentioned some locals saying winter is starting two months later so they have time to whisk about in their fossil fueled ice fortified runabout. Maybe soros could kick in for a helicopter equipped icebreaker escort. Bellot straight is still ice free for gosh sakes.

          • Caleb says:

And open water absorbs how much sunshine, more than 12 hours a day now? Or is it losing heat?

          • AndyG55 says:

            Total external reflection.

          • AndyG55 says:

            chart.

          • Me says:

looks quite inviting in actual fact Andy. Now imagine that said in a British accent? err better yet a Welsh snobby accent?
Well, Jim, if it looks quite inviting in actual fact Then why is it then, that you do not care to live in that place?

    • rw says:

      Jim,

How about you explaining to us why the red curve in the figure posted above isn’t below the dark blue one (the one from 4 years ago). Or is that what you’re trying to deflect everyone’s attention from?

    • RAH says:

It means NOTHING as far as the predicted melt down of Arctic sea ice Mr. Hunt. There is no “death spiral” and one does not appear to be in the offing. Tell you what! I advised you earlier this year to change your blogs subject matter to hurricanes and tropical storms and that is still sound advise. Next hurricane season you would more than likely have something to hyperventilate about because your sea ice “death spiral” is going nowhere.

      • Jim Hunt says:

Actually it’s not my sea ice “death spiral”, it’s Andy Lee Robinson’s. Here it is anyway:

        • No Mo Dupe says:

Jim, is your name pronounced using the glottal fricative?

        • RAH says:

It’s yours and every other person who hypes that meme as you do. The climate, it is a changing, but not the way your thinking it’s going and no BS graphic representation and PR scams are going to be able to hide what is coming. Still not too late. The next couple of hurricane seasons are probably going to be pretty active. I mean after all total

        • AndyG55 says:

Its now levelled off after the NATURAL drop as the AMO climbed. and indeed, starting to climb.

But the cycle has topped and the trend over the last 10 years is basically ZERO

Now it will start spiralling outwards instead.

And we will enjoy watching you crawl back into the sewer were you come from, Jimbo.

If you put a hat on Jim Jones, they look a lot alike. Drink the kookaid. It’s tasty.

  5. Caleb says:

Can Ice really be forming this fast in the Chukchi Sea, or are they merely seeing what they couldn’t see before?

  6. Andy says:

It’s not the shortest melt season on record.

As per your claim last year when that was the shortest melt season on record, that wasn’t either.

Any proof this is the fastest growing September ice extent on record? Even if it was, is there any significance?

    Andy

    • AndyG55 says:

You have yet to produce DMI data to show TH is wrong.

NSDIC shows peak 2016 was day 81, not 59 as you said.

      So…. Put up or STFU.

      Very rapid growth this year

      Day 267: 1.2 Wadhams above 2012.

And also now higher than 2007, 2008, 2011 and 2010.

  7. Sansome says:

I am not as familiar with the information that you are showing as I might be as I am not a working scientist (Medic) but I would be grateful for any insight into the reality of Man Made Climate Change and the most sober minded evidence, as I am inclined to think that some degree of doom mongering has been at work regarding the public presentation of this arena.
