Think Of The Penguins!

Salon says Arctic penguins are threatened by a 25% increase in Arctic sea ice since 2012.

Grandaddy of climate indicators is sick: These images show near-record low 2016 Arctic Sea ice –

Arctic ice extent is up 25% from 2012, and almost exactly the same as all other recent years.

Meanwhile, Antarctic sea ice extent (where the penguins actually live) is identical to 30 years ago.

As always, Salon got all of their facts wrong.

How long have there been penguins at the Arctic?

Do Polar bears try to eat them.

Do Inuit try to catch them?

    • Bill Pounder says:

Didn’t you hear? Penguins are on the march and they’ve got a hankering to mess with polar bears.

    • Colorado Wellington says:

The Russians were telling Hempleman-Adams to keep his mouth shut about all the free lands for the taking on the northern frontier. Now, Pilot Makhotkin Island will never be the same but who can blame these southern wretches?

“Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”

    • 4TImesAYear says:

That’s what I was going to ask…:) If that’s an Arctic low for ice, it’s awfully high if it reaches that far south.

  2. Ronnie Reagan was the first and last Republican to ever get my vote. The SDI antimissile project was the death of the Soviet Deathstar, and made the world safe for libertarianism.

Gary Johnson believes in Global warming and his running mate is not a strong second amendment supporter.

      • Jason Calley says:

Everyone knows what a RINO is. Now the Libertarian Party is running two LINOs for office.

What would really help is if there were DINOs, registered Democrats who did not, in fact, support the Dem policies. Sadly, all the DINOs seem to have died off.

        • Jim says:

Jason, your “DINOs seem to have died off” made me smile. Thanks.

Will Hank like Hillary erasing the 2nd amendment?

      • Colorado Wellington says:

No, but he will stay pure and that counts.

      • Gail Combs says:

It is well past time for idiot ‘PROTEST’ Votes.

There are only two choices in this election.

        1. The USA continuing to exist as a sovereign nation. — Trump

        2. The complete destruction of the USA as a nation and the complete destruction of the idea of free individuals forming a government. Voting Hillary, Jill Stein, Johnson or not voting is voting for an elite controlled worldwide feudal state whether you realize it or not. And when I say controlled I mean complete control that will make medieval serfs look free as a bird. (No one told them how to defecate.)

E.M. Smith just wrote a long essay on the philosophy of George Soros that explains what I am talking about. Soros is just one of many who are aiming for an elite controlled world government
SEE: Pascal Lamy: Whither Globalization? – The Globalist

IF you value your nation, be it Russia, China, India, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Germany, Australia, the USA or “wherever”, then do realize you are under attack by NGOs, funded and directed by Soros, who’s main goal it to eliminate “Tribalism” and “Nationalism”, that is, your Nation as a Nation. Your culture as a culture.

His history and track record show this is not a theory, but a report of historical fact.

….Now, any wonder why Obama and Hillary are so “pro-regime change”? And for the destruction of “tribal” “nationalistic” societies such as in Libya, Egypt, Syria, etc. etc…

….Soros likes to overthrow regimes. Now I find some of those regimes despicable tyrannies, but that doesn’t give me the right to say they must go. More importantly, I’ve got no issue with, say, the Navajo or anyone else wanting a bit of pride in their “tribe”. Even beyond that, I’m quite happy to have a bit of National Pride in my Nation, made of all sorts of Tribes… Soros wants that exterminated and replaced with his concept of an “Open Society”. But one is left wondering just what that is…

Soros is why an ‘ever closer union’ in the EU was a Main Goal, and why Brexit was so fiercely fought. Soros, his money and his Foundations and NGOs all are fighting it.

Note, too, that National Borders and having your own culture are “the problem”

But the interesting bit is that Putin has caught on…

So WHY would Hillary and Obama be against Putin, while Trump says, basically, I can work with the guy? Simple.

Obama and Hillary are Soros Sock Puppets working to destroy nations.

Putin and Trump are nationalist advocates, each for their own nation.

Yes, it really is that simple.

      • Gonzo says:

OT Tony but you’ll love this. The recent crew blog from Ben(bless his heart) from Illulisat and home of Jakobshavn Glacier reports the following, ” The approach was littered with icebergs and we had to go close to the coast to get in. The density of icebergs bizarrely is because of increased melting in the glaciers, they are not sea ice. The glacier is melting faster so more bits are breaking off and clogging the surrounding area so the more icebergs the warmer it is, or rather vice versa”.

A simple search on google earth shows the early terminus points much further up river/glacier. The terminus points clearly show most of the retreat happened from 1851 to 1931and what is interesting they show a 2001 terminus point almost identical to 1931! Something fishy seems to be going on. Overall the glacier looks very much jammed up to the entrance at the Disko Bugt/Bay.

        • Colorado Wellington says:

A 14-year-old kid doesn’t understand the difference between glacier melting and ice flow speed?

Good for him—he made it. He can get a job at The Guardian or The New York Times whenever he wants.

Even better at CNN with his accent.

  3. R. Shearer says:

Too late. It’s worse than we thought!

  4. Dave N says:

The Galapagos penguins must have become sick of the hot weather and moved North.. Either that, or the other ones are way more tired.

  5. gator69 says:

It’s worse than we thought! Antarctica has so hotted up that climate refugee penguins have been forced to migrate to the now ice free Arctic. Soon Barentsburg will look like Brussels, and Polaris like Paris, White Power bears harrassing poor black birds who only want a small patch of ice to call their own. The penguins have come home to roost!

  6. Jim Hunt says:

He just wants to wake him up so he can ask for directions:

  7. Robertv says:

Meanwhile the first penguins have landed on the Antarctic Peninsula for the 2016/17 breeding season.

Of Course they’re not dreaming of a white Christmas (sorry happy holiday).

  8. Jim Hunt says:

Why have you suddenly forsaken Bremen Uni Tony? Is it because AMSR2 is meaningless? According to AndyG at least!

    • AndyG55 says:

I never said AMSR is meaningless. That is what you said.

I said links to your meaningless CON/SCAM web site are meaningless.

Give a link that doesn’t mean people have to visit the sewer as well.

    • AndyG55 says:

Everybody knows just how desperate you are for ANYONE to visit your CON web site, or your SCAM videos … just for the numbers.

I have no intention of helping those numbers just to help you “feel” good about yourself.

    • AndyG55 says:

One does wonder why you pick part of the Arctic..

just providing mis-direction as usual, , hey Jimbo.

Bremen for Arctic is very similar to DMI.

And I BET you knew that, didn’t you little cockroach.

      • Gail Combs says:

What I see as significant is Freeze-up starting early, well before the summer Equinox.

The Ship of Fools just escaped in time.

This photo shows the start of Freeze-up in the NW passage.

        • Gail Combs says:

ACK summer Equinox is fall Equinox.

We already know that air temp means diddly when it comes to melting ice.
First solar insolation can make snow and ice sublimate in sub-freezing weather. However Icebergs mainly melt from sitting in warm water since about 7/8ths of an iceberg is below the water line.

The 207 and 2012 melts were due to storms breaking up the ice and exporting it out Fram strait into ‘warm’ North Atlantic water.

Andy has belaboured the point that the AMO and Arctic ice align very nicely.

          North Atlantic (60-0W, 30-65N) heat content 0-700 m depth.

        • AndyG55 says:

Being as around the Iceland area is one of the few places where the Arctic is not land locked, it is instructive to look at the Icelandic sea ice index.

Figure 1.2 from the above pdf is shown below

You can clearly see the build-up of sea ice around Iceland during the LIA, from about 1600

A near zero amount through 1920 – 1950 then a large peak in the late 1970’s.. (which is of course where all the Arctic scaremongers like to start)

This is the REALITY, Arctic sea ice has been coming down of an EXTREME peak in 1979, almost as high as those of the LIA.

It is a RECOVERY, not a death spiral.

Another thing to note is that in the very first graph, you can see the AMO still trying to exert its cycle, despite the effect of the LIA.

        • Jim Hunt says:

At the risk of repeating myself Gail, it shows nothing of the sort.

In actual fact it shows Northabout near Svalbard last year.

      • Jim Hunt says:

I picked that subset of the Arctic because it’s the bit that you keep harping on about.

        • AndyG55 says:

The bit that was TOTALLY blocked except the route they took.. Right , Jimbo

          Main channel VERY BLOCKED

          Larsens 1944 route BLOCKED

          Amundsen’s route BLOCKED

          At the time, Fury/Hecla BLOCKED

So again, as usual, your graph is MEANINGLESS in the context..

Just another attempted mis-direction from a propaganda monkey.

          • Jim Hunt says:

Those crickets seem to be getting ever louder:

          • AndyG55 says:

Poor Jimbo thinks they are still there waiting to get through.

            So sad..

            SO DUMB !!

            Jimbo.. they are NOT there,

they are NOT still looking for a way through..

            GET OVER IT!

          • AndyG55 says:

What Jimbo is trying to tell us is that Fury/Hecla is now the only way open.

He is telling us that even the Lawrence Sound route is now BLOCKED.

That’s right isn’t it, hey Jimbo, you clown.

          • AndyG55 says:

But don’t worry, Jimbo. If they were still there, they would have plenty of satellite sea ice charts to guide them. ;-)

          • Jim Hunt says:

Since Tony still hasn’t got around to it, even after all these months, I’ve most generously posted an article which provides the perfect platform for you to air your views on the first 3/4 of the Holocene:

Radio Four in Arctic Sea Ice Bias Shock Today!

Please do bear in mind, however, that your usual ranting “opinion” pieces with no science to back them up will be summarily red pencilled.

          • AndyG55 says:

Are you so incredibly INEPT that you can’t do even a bit of research of your own?

Pretty obvious the crap on your CON web site must be fed to you by someone else, because you certainly don’t have the ability to put it togteher yourself.

A little PUPPET.. or do the Exeter boys callyou “Poppet”

And again the lonely, lonely PLEADING for someone to visit you in your sewer.

        • Jim Hunt says:

          There’s those crickets again.

I give you the perfect opportunity to expound at length on the climate during the first 3/4 of the Holocene in general, and the state of sea ice in the Arctic at that time, and this is the thanks I get?

  9. Jason Calley says:

Loss of Arctic ice will drive the northern penguin population to extinction. When? Any moment now…

  10. Gail Combs says:

Hey, don’t forget Hesperornis with a range from Arkansas up to the Arctic Circle.

MANKIND KILLED THEM OFF, despite being up to six feet long, and having a beak lined with sharp teeth. BAD BAD Mankind.

World’s Oldest Fish Hooks Discovered in Okinawa, Japan

…The world’s oldest fish hooks have been unearthed in Okinawa, Japan. The fish hooks, which are crescent-shaped, are estimated to be 23,000 years old…..
Discovered along with the fishing hooks, which were made of sea snails, were other artifacts such as beads and tools as well as food that ancient people residing in the area ate. These include charred frogs, birds and eels, as well residues of freshwater crabs….

SEE, I told you it was those evil humans that killed off the Arctic Penguins!!!!

    • Colorado Wellington says:

Gail, while we are on the animal kingdom subject, is there any truth to this? I always thought Boulder would be first in things like this but I haven’t seen it around here yet. Are we falling behind?

People Are ‘Losing Their Minds’ for Goat Yoga

(Newser) – A farm in Albany, Oregon, is offering yoga classes with goats. Portland is probably mad it didn’t think of it first. The Oregonian reports it all started when a yoga instructor asked if she could host a class on Lainey Morse’s No Regrets Farm. Morse’s six goats invited themselves to the class, and Goat Yoga was born. And if that sounds weird, consider that the Goat Yoga wait list is 500 people deep, according to CBC. Morse says people are “just absolutely losing their minds” for it. She thinks her goats “add a level of happy and fun” to what is “supposed to be very strict meditation.”

  11. Caleb says:

Another day dawns on Barrow, on the cozy coast of the Arctic Sea. More ice comes grinding ashore, blown south from waters that are supposedly “ice free”, according to some people who use some maps.

  12. Caleb says:

Meanwhile O-buoy 14, which three weeks ago was drifting through a patch of open water, is now locked in sea-ice grinding eastward in Parry Channel. The camera gazes north, and far away the north coast of the channel can be seen catching the sun.

  13. Douglas Rogalla says:

just wondering how the antarctic sea ice extent is going down already when temps down there are still subzero in many reporting locations
