Understanding The 1979 Arctic Ice Cherry Pick

Climate fraudsters like to claim that Earth began in 1979, the year of peak Arctic sea ice. The graph below shows why. If they started their graph in 1954, there would be almost no downwards trend to the present.ScreenHunter_306 Feb. 22 10.26

Unfortunately, Steven, scientists have been trained to “cherry-pick” data that will support government propaganda so they will get more grant funds.

    Just as Pavlov’s dogs learned.

What a sad commentary on humans: We corrupted the instrument that would provide the critical information needed for our own survival !

Alright, so we have Mr. Murphy in 1960-Dec-01 saying that we will have open water by 2000

Bernt Balchen on 1972-May-18 said ice free by 2000.

Has anyone compiled a list yet?

In their (weak) defense, there’s much greater uncertainty about sea ice extent prior to the 1970s, because of the lack of satellite surveys. Nevertheless, scientists who maintained Feynman’s standards would take pains to always note, when using graphs starting in 1979, that it is believed to have represented a peak year for sea ice extent.

  4. Andy DC says:

How often to alarmists talk about percentage of ice decline since 1979? That percentage is obviously overstated, because the long term average is way less than during 1979. A perfect way to lie with statistics.

    Steve,

O/T but, if you can access past New Scientists, you might trip over this.

    I posted this at http://diggingintheclay.wordpress.com/2014/02/17/place-your-bets/

    “Verity,

Many years ago (about 1965 – 70 as I recall) Iread an item in New Scientist (in Ariadne’s column I think ) on the possibility of generating a computer based religion.

Amomg its features was a proclomation of mores diametrically opposed to what the general population was practicing,

And an allocation ot rewards based on the UK premium bond payout

And a wondering if the followers would notice the difference if told it was spruked by X and the software was written by Y.

    Sounds like something we’ve met.

Unfortunately I don’t have the reference but someone else may have it.”
