There must have been a huge spike in CO2 that year over a century ago… only explanation possible for the Northwest Passage being open briefly. 🙂

  2. Gail Combs says:

WHAT opening of the North West Passage? I thought it remained ice clogged all summer.

  3. stpaulchuck says:

It also opened in the late 1800’s (I can’t find the reference for that just now)

  4. Douglas Hoyt says:

There are a lot of books on the Northwest Passage. One by Ed Struzik, published in 1991, lists many passages. After 1954, there are passages nearly every year.

This is good, but don’t miss the page on their site, entitled “VIDEO: Aventura trapped by ice in Arctic Bay”. The link is cornellsailing.com/2014/08/video-aventura-trapped-ice-arctic-bay/”

    Another one for the files…

  9. emsnews says:

If they continue sailing they will meet the polar bears that put up the ice floe barriers. Dinner.
