The US has gone over eight years without a major hurricane, the longest such period since the Civil War. This has prompted crack US scientists to forecast an increase in the frequency of major hurricanes.

WOW, more hurricanes this century. Way to go out on a limb. Here I my predictions.
There will be more meteors exploding in the atmosphere.
There will be tornado’s in all 50 states.
More earthquakes expected.
Aliens will land on White House lawn.
And if in 87 years those things don’t happen, feel free to call me a liar. Until then I expect government grants to fund my ‘research’
Wasn’t the National Hurricane Center saying that there was a 70% chance of a major hurricane strike this year? Yet those same people will make the same wiild ass guesses next year to create hype and the media will still lap it all up.
Same people will also predict the number of named storms, while they decide what it is a named storm. Pretty easy to make your forecast verify under those conditions. It is like predicting how much money you will spend on groceries when you are doing the shopping!
Doesn’t matter the hurricane center will still be funded.
Since we’re in a hurricane drought, any hurricanes would be an increase, thereby validating their “prediction”. That’s the way they do science these days.
This reminds me of the line in one of the old Mel Brooks movies:
“The Romans have a god for everything – except premature ejaculation – but one is coming soon.”
I would say that if we have had a record lack of them, any prediction of an increase has a pretty good probability of success. But the people won’t know the difference.
