These are comments from his years as a skeptic.

“It is ironic if some people treat me as a traitor, since I was never a skeptic — only a scientific skeptic,” he said in a recent email exchange with The Huffington Post. “Some people called me a skeptic because in my best-seller ‘Physics for Future Presidents’ I had drawn attention to the numerous scientific errors in the movie ‘An Inconvenient Truth.’ But I never felt that pointing out mistakes qualified me to be called a climate skeptic.”

Richard Muller, Climate Researcher, Navigates The Volatile Line Between Science And Skepticism

December 17, 2003

“Let me be clear. My own reading of the literature and study of paleoclimate suggests strongly that carbon dioxide from burning of fossil fuels will prove to be the greatest pollutant of human history. It is likely to have severe and detrimental effects on global climate.” –

  1. daveburton says:

If you like your skepticism you can keep it.

  2. And for good measure, his interview at the lefty Grist magazine http://grist.org/article/lets-get-physical/ , October 2008:

“Do you consider yourself an environmentalist?”

“Oh yes. [Laughs.] In fact, back in the early ’80s, I resigned from the Sierra Club over the issue of global warming. At that time, they were opposing nuclear power. What I wrote them in my letter of resignation was that, if you oppose nuclear power, the U.S. will become much more heavily dependent on fossil fuels, and that this is a pollutant to the atmosphere that is very likely to lead to global warming.”

  3. Andy DC says:

If he is a skeptic, I am the King of Siam.

  4. Kaboom says:

All Muller ever aspired to was a place at the trough. He just had the bad fortune of not being part of the first wave, so he had to build a narrative to pole-vault the established bottom feeders.

  5. tom0mason says:

    He’s a skeptic and I am Spartacus!

  6. Beale says:

Better men than Muller have discovered that pointing out the Great One’s errors (if that’s the word) is more than enough to put one beyond the pale.

  7. Sparks says:

What was he sceptical of… Climate Change? ha ha!

  8. ian005 says:

Have to chuckle though. Michael “Hockey Stick” Mann describes Muller thus:

“Rather than objectively communicating the findings of the IPCC to their readers, the New York Times instead foisted upon them the ill-informed views of Koch Brothers-funded climate change contrarian Richard Muller, who used the opportunity to deny the report’s findings.

In fact, in the space of just a couple months now, the Times has chosen to grant Muller not just one, but two opportunities to mislead its readers about climate change and the threat it poses.”
