The Greenland Summit Camp is buried in deep snow and ice for the second year in a row. Last summer they had to dig out and relocate several buildings, and this year looks even worse.
Climate scientists continue to claim that Greenland is melting down, despite all evidence to the contrary.
But the fairways, bunkers and greens are looking great! ….. I gotta tee time for later this afternoon. Woohoo .. Golf at the Greenland Country Club … can’t beat it!
That is summit camp, its about 10 000 feet above sea level and has an average temperature of -30C. In a warming world you would expect more snow not less.
Viking graves in Greenland were full of tree roots. Do you see any trees in Greenland now?
LOL are you actually trying to say that vikings lived at summit!
No no. That’s rotten snow.
It will all disappear quite suddenly by Mid summer.
At least that’s what Al Gore said.
Albdeo has been extremely low during the summer months in greenland in recent years. Records were broken in 2013 and 2012 in that regard.
“… despite all evidence to the contrary…”
That’s probably *the reason* they’re claiming Greenland is melting down.
It’s a *sympton*, not a logical conclusion! 🙂
Greenland is melting (at lower altitudes). It will loose another 500 gigatonnes (if we are lucky) by this time next year.
I think the climate scientists must be right. If Greenland wasn’t melting down it would be so high by now you wouldn’t be able to see the top.
Actually yes, snow does not accumulate indefinitely. In a stable climate an equilibrium is reached where precipitation perfectly balances summer melt and runoff at lower altitudes. In our warming world precipitation has increased slightly, but the melt at lower attitudes and run off has increased much much more. We can’t even reach a new equilibrium because the effect is accelerating.
You really haven’t got a clue. This is complete willful ignorance. The central Greenland icesheet does not melt, and only extremely rarely shows signs of any melt of any kind (though that is becoming slightly more common). Because of this, the central greenland ice sheet always gains ice and never looses it, yet the overall ice mass of greenland is decreasing not increasing, because all the melt occurs at low attitudes along the coast, and the main mechanism for ice loss is runoff into the sea. What is going on at these upper attitudes is completely irrelevant.
Greenland receives 2 trillion cubic meters of snow every year. It all has to return to the sea. Mental midgets like you stand by the shore and cry about it.
Yes and Greenland still has a net loss of ice, at lower latitudes there is both significant melt and runoff. In fact since 2000 we have lost more than a Teraton of ice from Greenland. Obviously you don’t like this because it doesn’t fit your conclusions that global warming is an illuminati conspiracy.
And before you kick off, I meant altitudes.
Melting 74 years ago was much more extensive.
.
In fact since 2000…
and of course you’re looked at the temp graphs for Greenland for 1940-2000

Why is it good for Greenland to be covered with ice? Would we want Canada or England to be covered with ice?
Whether it’s good for Greenland to be covered with ice or not, we’re stuck with it for the foreseeable future. There’s 3 million gigatons of the stuff.
We lost 1000 gigatonnes last decade, we will loose much more this decade.
We? WTF are you talking about? You live in Greenland?
Please provide a reliable source for that, and one warm year seventy years ago won’t cut it. The fact remains that since 2000 every single year, without a single break of any kind has seen ice loss from greenland. And we are not talking trivial amounts, about 200 gigatonnes a year, although now its more like 500 gigatonnes per year. So what gives in posting a photograph from summit camp that will look like that for the next 500 years even in a strongly warming world, when greenland is systematically loosing ice mass every single year. Would you put money on the icemass being higher this time next year? I doubt you would, because you know it won’t be. The ice mass will continue to fall and not just fall, accelerate, so continue posting pictures from summit camp, vostok station and mount Everest using the tactic; frozen water; it must be cooling!
Read it and weep

So? This paper is mostly about how the NAO influences regional climates. The paper is not denying the existence of global climate change merely suggesting that other factors also come into play. No one has ever denied that…
And no one has ever denied that the global climate changes. Yet the new mantra of global warming is climate change. Why is that?

I can’t tell if this post is serious or not.

Not even a clue? Yet in an earlier comment you attack another commenter for the exact same thing; “You really haven’t got a clue.”
Look. Let’s cut to the chase. 1 -If you believe that humans are causing the planet to warm by introducing increased amounts of CO2 in the atmosphere (that just recently topped a monthly average of 400ppm), how do you reconcile earth’s temperatures have been flat/lower in the prior 17+ years in a row?
2 – This is an interglacial period, ice is supposed to melt. Otherwise there would still be a mile of ice on top of New York City. And before you launch into rate of melt see 3 below.
3 – The GIC (glacier and ice caps) rate for 2003–2010 is about 30 per cent smaller than the previous mass balance estimate. http://www.nature.com/nature/journal/v482/n7386/full/nature10847.html
4 – Keeping in mind that numerous climate catastrophists predicted years ago that the arctic would be ice-free by now, possibly even you can understand why some remain skeptical.
Nicely put Hugh.

Methinks it was!!!
On a more serious note: Greenland is calving (not melting appreciably) at its edges. The more snow/ice deposited in its central regions, the greater the eventual pressure on the edges. So acceleration of ice loss at the perimeter (edges) is a function of ice accumulation over its entire area. Moulins also flow water near the edges, but measure the area of accumulation vs the area of loss and the ratio is about 50 to one if you take the edges as being a 15 mile wide band around the continent.
On balance, Greenland is “on balance,” but a rapidly opening summer Arctic will provide a larger moisture feed to turn Greenland into a snow/ice accumulation phase, and that moisture will fall as snow, as the folks at the Summit Station are finding out!!!
