One year ago, scientists announced the demise of Utah skiing. This year they are getting buried in snow, and expecting several feet of snow this week in the mountains.

      When it comes to climate change, we have to trust our scientists, because they know lots of big scary words

      ….Unprecedentedly, I had direct access to the meteorologists concerned, as I was in Exeter in spirit form, and I managed to speak to the principal actors.

      First, I asked Stephen Belcher, the head of the Met Office Hadley Centre, whether the recent extended winter was related to global warming. Shaking his famous “ghost stick”, and fingering his trademark necklace of sharks’ teeth and mammoth bones, the loin-clothed Belcher blew smoke into a conch, and replied,

      “Here come de heap big warmy. Bigtime warmy warmy. Is big big hot. Plenty big warm burny hot. Hot! Hot hot! But now not hot. Not hot now. De hot come go, come go. Now Is Coldy Coldy. Is ice. Hot den cold. Frreeeezy ice til hot again. Den de rain. It faaaalllll. Make pasty.”

      Startled by this sobering analysis, I moved on to Professor Rowan Sutton, Climate Director of NCAS at the University of Reading. Professor Sutton said that many scientists are, as of this moment, examining the complex patterns in the North Atlantic, and trying to work out whether the current run of inclement European winters will persist.

      When pressed on the particular outlook for the British Isles. Professor Sutton shook his head, moaned eerily unto the heavens, and stuffed his fingers into the entrails of a recently disembowelled chicken, bought fresh from Waitrose in Teignmouth.

    Ski resort snow report Utah. Grab the slats and poles and get going if you can because conditions are great with more powder coming.

    For this former military ski instructor the real fun and challenge was off piste. Groomed marked slopes are great but getting off of them to where the real powder is and picking your own route is the place to be for the experienced recreational skier IMO. Just don’t go too far afield alone and don’t take skiers without the necessary experience with you.. Even the best can get hurt and need help even if one does know what the terrain looks like your skiing snow free.

    I will never forget the winter of 88-89 skiing Bavaria, Austria, and Italy. Powder to the waist of this 6 footer several times that year. Began the season in October in Austria on a glacier and ended it at Vipiteno, Italy in early April attending the Italian SF (Incusouries sp?) of their Folgore Regiment annual ski training and exercise. Did several night descents during that time including one a torch descent in trail which is a Folgore tradition I guess. Imagine the view of over 200 people skiing down a slope in trail with a burning flare in one hand. Helicopter skied the 2nd highest mountain in Germany from top to bottom in between.

    So what have we seen in the last few winters?

    Let’s start with Greenland shall we?

    “April 24, 2015 — I believe in one of my first blog posts I mentioned that we were working in an area of high accumulation (snowfall) on the Greenland Ice Sheet. I would like to change that to an area of VERY HIGH accumulation! Actually Southeast Greenland does receive the largest amount of snowfall on the entire ice sheet. In previous years we have experienced storms dumping over a meter of snow. This year we had one of those storms bringing well over a meter of snow and then 3 hours after the first storm ended we got a second, bigger storm, pushing our 5 days snow total to nearly 3 meters of snow.
    The amount of snow is best summed up by a dinner conversation in our cook tent where Olivia, being on the ice sheet for the first time, asked Clem, Josh and I, ice sheet veterans, what the biggest storm we had ever been in was like. We all responded, in unison,” this is the biggest storm we have ever been in!” While the weather was not particularly cold or windy, it just kept snowing. The low wind made it possible for us to continue science measurements through the storm in a special tent, with no floor, providing both shelter and access to the snow.”

    And Italy broke the world’s single day snow record not once by TWICE last winter!
    March 6 2015 —Record snow in Abruzzo, Italy, 5 & 6 Mar 2015 “…Published on March 8, 2015 – As of the morning of Thursday, March 5, for about 24 consecutive hours it snowed persistently recording a total accumulation of 1 meter and a half. (Almost 5 feet)…”
    Abruzzo, Italy in decimal degrees: 42.4°N Altitude/ elevation: 11 m (36 ft).

    March 11, 2015: World Record Snowfall in Capracotta, Italy “Entire buildings and cars buried. 100.8 inches of snow in just 18 hours” Previous record belonged to Silver Lake, Colorado, USA with 75.8 inches

    And the Greek islands in the Mediterranean were buried under 6½ ft (2 m) of snow.

    The Cycladic island of Tinos faces a third difficult day Friday after heavy snowfall disabled much of its infrastructure as well as isolating several villages….
    At least eight villages on Tinos were cut off Thursday as snow levels reached up to 2 meters while schools and public services remained closed….

    Aemi tropical Tokushima, Japan (34.0° N same as South Carolina) has been hit with major snow storms roofs collapsed, at least 8 dead. Japan got plastered with a series of storms last winter.

Snow falling heavily above 4500? with accumulation reported and snow at Snowshoe Mtn Ski Resort WV a month earlier than normal. West Virginia got 1-3 inches of snow Saturday night into Sunday morning. And the official total for Snowshoe Mountain in West Virginia reached NINE INCHES.

        October 5, 2011 – Record Early Snow on Mammoth Mountain, CA (over a foot )
        Mammoth Mountain averages 5.2 inches of snow in October. Last year was a record breaking year with 668 inches of snow. “More snow is on the way tonight and tomorrow.” With six inches to a foot of snow expected by Thursday. Meanwhile Heavy mountain snow continued across Utah. Two feet already reported in some areas with Up to 30 inches forecast.

        October 7, 2011 With 3 feet of snow, Wolf Creek Ski Area will open this weekend … the earliest open ever. and on the 13th Arapahoe Basin opened to skiers and riders today, just 100 days.

        Not to be left out – EUROPE
        6 Oct 11 – “Cairgorm in the Highlands was the first place in the UK to experience the chill of winter as the ski slopes on the Scottish resort experienced the first dump of snow,”
        8 Oct 11 First snow of the season in Italy and “Extremely rare” early snow in Germany up to 4 inches of snow. The the Zugspitze (I have skiied there) already had 35 centimeters of snow – almost 14 inches. According to the weather center this is an extremely rare thing.” Since the beginning of weather record only in the years 1956 and 1994 fell a corresponding amount of snow at this time.”
        By Sunday, the cold will have reached as far south as northern parts of Turkey and Greece. The mountains in southern Greece and up the Adriatic should see the first snow of the season. There should be a good covering of snow at all levels through Romania, Bulgaria, Ukraine and Belarus, with temperatures falling to well below zero over this snow cover.

        October 15, 2011 – Arctic blast to bring snow to the U.K.
        freezing temperatures on Monday would “fall away sharply” towards the end of the week, plunging to minus 4C (25F) in parts. And Rao mentions yet another forecaster, senior meteorologist Richard James@ World forecasters World Climate Service calling for a mini ice age.

        “Records for the month of October have been shattered across the Northeast. Some spots have seen an astonishing, by October standards, 1 to 2 feet of snow! According to Vermont Public Radio, heavy wet snow set records in southern Vermont this Halloween weekend postponing Rutland’s Halloween Parade.         Meanwhile Amarillo, Texas received almost five inches of heavy, wet snow on October 27 breaking 100-year-old snowfall record.

        Record snowfall in the spring, record snowfall in the autumn, skiing on the 4th of July, and glaciers growing in the Rockies. Three of the last four winters up to 2011 were the snowest and I will leave it at that.

      It is obvious that gigantic glacial ice caps a mile think over Chicago are perfectly compatible with a rising global temperature. After all, the Laurentide Ice Sheet covered less than 4% of the earth’s surface.

    I was working at UEA in 2004 when this Global Warming fraud was being at its height, on a project which became the “applied psychology of climate change denial” (i.e. smearing one’s opponents). Part of the strategy to get people to fall for the fraud was to get “trusted celebrities” to endorse the “product” in order to increase its market share: Attenborough was just one of these. Of course, it was all a pseudo-scientific political fraud and all of us working on the project knew it was. The real “product” is global wealth redistribution from poor people in rich people [countries?] to rich people in poor countries. Of course, that product would never sell and would soon be spotted as a global Ponzi scheme, so it had to be “Menckened-up” by making it appear to be Planet-Saving mission which, should it fail, would destroy the planet for our grand-children. It worked for a time, but eventually all the fabricated data and bogus computer models were exposed, the reality of the 17-year “pause” or cooling became all too apparent and the fraud came crashing down, even after a desperate re-branding as “Climate Change”. What mystifies me is why Attenborough still allows his name to be associated with the fraud.
