I’m curious about the recent drop in temperature. You usually see swings like that after about a 3 month lag in SST’s but at the moment they remain neutral or are even on the warmish side.

Short term ENSO models are predicting a continued drop in SST’s until the end of Feb. I’ve been watching this for a few years now, and I’m a little surprised things are cooling down so quickly. What changed dramatically that caused the Dec drop? That’s chaos theory for you. 😉

GISS, HADCRUT, UAH and RSS all show that SH has dropped in the last couple of months, but the NH has dropped even more.
And this is before the January freeze and possible return of La Nina.
The Team never forecast this.

Yes it’s curious. Ocean sea surface temps usually drive short term global temperature variations. This is a little left of field. Also, I suspect this dip is going to be outside the ‘weather spread’ (expected natural variability range) of most of the IPCC’s GCM’s.
