Should be 50 years ago.
Yeah, we desperately need a new Reagan.
RONALD REAGAN Stopped Global Warming!
From Scientific American: “Ozone Hole History Offers Climate Lesson”
The Montreal Protocol aimed to fix the ozone hole, but it also delayed global warming.
…By the 1980s, folks like then Secretary of State George Shultz woke up to the threat, despite a campaign of denial from scientific doubters. He convinced President Reagan that the danger was real and that action was necessary. By 1989, the U.S. and the rest of the world had crafted an international treaty to curb CFCs known as the Montreal Protocol.
As a result, the hole in the ozone layer that forms above Antarctica has mostly stabilized.
Now we know that Montreal also bought us a little more time to deal with another air pollution problem: climate change. That’s according to a new analysis in the journal Nature Geoscience. The study found a statistically significant correlation between the onset of the Montreal Protocol and a reduction in the pace of global warming. Because CFCs are also greenhouse gases.

Yep, RONALD REAGAN stopped Global Warming
Not so fast. The HFCs that have been used to replace the CFCs are also powerful greenhouse gases.. The net result should be no change.

Anyone who says that the Montreal Protocol has reduced greenhouse warming is being deliberately misleading.
Looking at the actual article in question, my initial hunch was correct. They appear to have ignored the contribution from HFCs in their radiative forcing calculation.
The article of course was written by whackjobs…..
It is NOT about CFC being a green house gas, it is about the ozone layer depletion!
Global Warming Caused by CFCs, Not Carbon Dioxide, Researcher Claims in Controversial Study
…”It was generally accepted for more than two decades that the Earth’s ozone layer was depleted by the sun’s ultraviolet light-induced destruction of CFCs in the atmosphere,” he said. “But in contrast, CRE theory says cosmic rays — energy particles originating in space — play the dominant role in breaking down ozone-depleting molecules and then ozone.”
Lu’s theory has been confirmed by ongoing observations of cosmic ray, CFC, ozone and stratospheric temperature data over several 11-year solar cycles. “CRE is the only theory that provides us with an excellent reproduction of 11-year cyclic variations of both polar ozone loss and stratospheric cooling,” said Professor Lu. “After removing the natural cosmic-ray effect, my new paper shows a pronounced recovery by ~20% of the Antarctic ozone hole, consistent with the decline of CFCs in the polar stratosphere.”
By demonstrating the link between CFCs, ozone depletion and temperature changes in the Antarctic, Professor Lu was able to draw almost perfect correlation between rising global surface temperatures and CFCs in the atmosphere.
“The climate in the Antarctic stratosphere has been completely controlled by CFCs and cosmic rays, with no CO2 impact

Ozone level fluctuation may also be natural, at this time it is not known. But Erl Happ and Carl Wolk have done some serious work on it’s effects –

What a brilliant speech and a republican could make the same speech now but with larger numbers. Why the hell don’t they !!!
This man was a visionary…saw what was coming. Where is our Ronald Regan today?
Positivity lyrics – Prince:
“Don’t kiss the beast
We need love and honesty, peace & harmony
Positivity
Love and honesty, peace and harmony
I said, hold on to your soul, you got a long way to go
Sho’ nuff, sho’ nuff, sho’ nuff
Don’t kiss the beast
Be superior at least
Hold on to your soul, y’all, court, sing
Hold on to your soul, we got a long way to go
Hold on to your soul”
