Today I was thinking about how the talking points on climate change have shifted from “global warming” to “extreme weather”.

If the Warmist wanted to make a convincing case, they would stick with temperature changes. Temperatures are a continuous variable, which allows them to show significant changes using standard statistical methods, like t-tests or ANOVAs. By assuming that today’s temperatures are roughly equal in variance to past temperatures, they could use easier statistical tools.

Once they dive into saying that today’s climate is more “extreme” than in the past, they are then unable to assume equal variance and must use statistical analyses that make it more difficult to achieve significance, like rank-sum analyses such as Mann Whitey or Kruskal-Wallis tests.

It is much simpler to analyze and interpret data with equal variance, and much easier to demonstrate that any shift is statistically meaningful. For them to abandon this approach in favor of “more extreme” climate tells me that they can’t show any significant changes in temperature (relative to the historical trends, for example), and have decided to abandon the normal tools of statistical analysis in favor of something that is inherently harder to prove, but also harder to disprove.

Kind of like the warmist scientists liberal activists predicted that there’d be a hotspot in the troposphere where there’s .. a cold spot. Kind of like the masive ice loss predicted for Antarctica where there’s .. massive ice gain. Kind of like the wild out of control warming that their models predicted for the last 2 decades, where instead we’ve had .. nothing, nada, zilch. Kind of like scores of predictions of doom from the doomsayers dating back to before 1970 that in every single case has proved to have been not only false but just completely off the mark. In every case. Instead of doom we got just the boring same as its ever been. No, the oceans haven’t swamped Manhattan and Florida and the LA Airport, they are just the same as they ever were decades ago. And the temperatures, they aren’t boiling, they’re just the same as they ever were decades ago. Time to end the scam. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=98AJUj-qxHI&info=TalkingHeads_SameAsItEverWas

Looks like Peak Ice Gain to me. The Hansen effect joins the Gore Effect.

Hansen is the Jim Cramer of climate science.

Climate warmists’ think that the sun turns around the Earth, that the wind is created by the trees moving their branches. They should read “Geology for Dummies” and maybe they’ll discover that CO2 has been dropping for the last 3,5 billion years: from 40% to 0.04%. And 0.02 % is the end of life in Earth. We are pretty close!
Everything is largely explained here: http://www.amazon.com/Dont-Stop-CO2-Emissions-Burning-ebook/dp/B00RKJVTPE/ref=tmm_kin_title_popover?ie=UTF8&qid=1420280134&sr=1-1

  6. In before some cultist who doesn’t know what albedo signifies posts something dumb!

(I mean, really, where’s “snow white” when you need him?)

  7. ren says:

You can certainly anticipate a record of ice in the Antarctic due to the temperature of the ocean and a decrease in solar activity.
