What If This Happened Now?

In September 1961, Obama was one month old.

During that month, Texas was hit by hurricane Carla – considered by some to be the most intense storm to ever hit the US. At the same time, Ireland was hit by Hurricane Debbie. And a few days later New England was hit by Hurricane Esther.

If this happened now, Obama would say it was unprecedented.

You can’t say Carla was a strong hurricane. Don’t you know hurricanes are measured by damage in dollars (and please don’t adjust for inflation) and number of deaths (and please don’t adjust for changes in population)? The strongest hurricanes in history all happened in the past decade. Yeah, that’s the ticket.

I see that the climate faithful have elevated Katrina, a CAT 3, above Andrew, a CAT 5, – for “intensity”. They even claim the pressure was lower. It would be nice to get the skinny from Bastardi on what the numbers really were.
