December 1970 – Record Warmth And A Tornado In Wisconsin
This entry was posted in Uncategorized. Bookmark the permalink.
What’s your point, Steven? If there were record high temps in those states in 1970 then it is significant if there are record high temps in those states now. See, for there to be record high temps in those states now means the records set in 1970 have to be broken. I haven’t checked, so I don’t know what is going on in those states this month, but the month of December certainly was unseasonably warm for most of the conus. You keep posting blog posts like this one that give me the impression you don’t understand that if a record is set in a location where a record was set in 1970, the new record is higher than the one that was set in 1970. If that keeps happening in that location, it means it’s getting warmer there. You appear not to get that, like you think, “Big deal! We set records there in 1970. There’s nothing unprecedented about records. Big deal!”
What’s going on here?! What’s going on!

I beak records daily! I had my first ever breakfast for today. I plan to have my first ever dinner for today. Yay!
“You keep posting blog posts like this one that give me the impression you don’t understand that if a record is set in a location where a record was set in 1970, the new record is higher than the one that was set in 1970.”
Someone please correct me if I am wrong, but I think that most temperature records are on a “equaled or exceeded” basis. If a record was set in 1970 and equaled in 1998, both years would be counted as record years.
His point is that the temperatures currently being labeled as record highs are not, in fact, record highs. He’s not saying that the records being broken today were set in 1970. He’s presenting evidence that previous temperatures were HIGHER than those which are now claimed to be record highs. This particular post was anecdotal, as opposed to statistical, and therefore of little scientific relevance. But I note that you chose not to comment on these recent posts:
https://stevengoddard.wordpress.com/2015/12/25/alices-restaurant/
https://stevengoddard.wordpress.com/2015/12/24/trouble-ahead-for-climate-alarmists/
https://stevengoddard.wordpress.com/2015/12/24/christmas-eve-1955-was-much-warmer/
which did present quantifiable evidence of his position on this very same warm spell. Pay particular attention to the Christmas Eve, 1955 map, and how it compares to this past Thursday. As you accurately point out, new records are set all the time. There are conditions specific to every location that will push individual spots to new highs and lows. But for the continental US as a whole, December 24, 1955 was plainly warmer than December 24, 2015. It’s not even close. Talk of record breaking heat for the US this Christmas is plainly dishonest. That’s the point Tony is making.
No, Ted, the record highs being labeled now as record highs are record highs. He can’t post a newspaper article from 1970 to prove that new record highs are not record highs. That is obvious, so why are you defending it?
>But I note that you chose not to comment on these recent posts:
No, Ted, I didn’t choose not to comment.

No, Ted, 1955 was not warmer than 2015. 2015 is a lot warmer. Here is the graph: http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-bkFvjCJU_NI/VoKNBMDXx_I/AAAAAAAALXo/qSY6Z8JbgrM/s1600/1955+to+2015a.png
“No, Ted, I didn’t choose not to comment. ”
I see no comments from you on any of those posts. Are you posting under a different name?
Christmas Eve is a day, not a year. Your graph says nothing at all about daily highs. You can’t prove that you’re taller than me by saying Kobe Bryant is 6’8″. While possibly true, it’s an irrelevant data point, and does nothing to further your argument.
The news is reporting unprecedented late December heat throughout roughly half the country. Tony has presented evidence that such a claim is simply not true. Yes, individual stations hit new records all the time. (we’re seeing record cold here in southern California) No, the temperature of the eastern half of the US is not unprecedented for this date, and has not been on any day this winter.
Steven talked about 1955 a few blogs ago. Turns out he was wrong. Now he’s talking about 1970. He’s wrong again. You can see both 1955 and 1970 on this graph. They’re waybelow 2015: http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-bkFvjCJU_NI/VoKNBMDXx_I/AAAAAAAALXo/qSY6Z8JbgrM/s1600/1955+to+2015a.png
[SG : Martin really needs to stop lying if he wants to continue commenting on this blog

Are you talking about this post regarding Christmas Day, 1955?
https://stevengoddard.wordpress.com/2015/12/25/christmas-day-1955/
Even assuming that your linked graph is correct, you do understand why it has almost nothing to do with Christmas Day temperatures, don’t you?
Jason, you must understand…
Martin Smith says:
December 29, 2015 at 6:16 pm
Colorado, I read the blog posts I criticise. That’s what “read this blog” means.
Marty criticised the two 1955 posts, so we must take Marty at his word (yeah, I know). So we can now come to the conclusion that he is unable to comprehend simple subjects, or that he is a pathological liar, or that he is both.
Yes, Jason, but my comment does relate to Steven’s blog post. Both you and Steven have missed the point of the discussion in the media about the warmth in the US over Christmas. Steven did it deliberately by posting a graph of locations over 60F on Christmas 1955. Did you not notice that? It truly has nothing to do with the heat records that were broken. So why are you defending it? Steven deliberately obfuscated and you fell for it.
[you and Steven have missed the point] No marty you missed the point again! What is being presented and which you are unable comprehend is that’s been warm before in December in places that are traditionally cold. And records that are broken have to taken into context of A) how long has that station been there B) by how much was the record broken C) how accurate are the readings? D) are they larger or smaller than the error bars of the recording equipment
Tell me Martin, are you that stupid that you don’t understand the posting? Or are you just an asshole that likes to stir the pot to get a reaction?
Your comments never address the topic at hand. Just a whole lot of blah, blah, blah. Are you the guy at a party that everyone avoids? You only come here because you get attention that you can’t get anywhere else? Are you a lonely guy living in mama’s basement? Can’t have a meaningful relationship with the opposite sex? Failed at everything you ever tried? Sure sounds like it!
Nothing but krapola from a sick mind! You need help and I would suggest you seek it asap before you do something bad and the men in white coats have to come and take you away (hehe, hoho, to the funny farm)! As Bugs Bunny said, “What a maroon!”
You got it wrong, Peter. Nobody is avoiding Marty. He learned how to become unavoidable. He’s also very popular with the opposite sex—whichever that is—and has many social responsibilities.
Especially at the lake.

Holy moly, Colorado. That was a great post of a sybilline neurotic witch, the tantrums of which are not unlike most environmental “saviors” when they don’t get their way. Doug Giles offers something quite similar:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HxmD-7NDW7k
See Gail?
If you would just post relevant, well documented research like Martin presented in his link, he wouldn’t have to call you childish.
Thank you for supporting me, Ted. Well said.
Oh Teddy, now you have hurt my feelings
sniff.

Wow, Martin, talk about comparing apples to oranges! Comparing an entire year to one day and claiming you’re right.
As Martin is so fond of saying: “Wrong graph”, lol.
Ok, peeps, another thread has descended into psycho-babble, so I will see you later.
Off to the lake!

Gail, sorry, see what I mean? All your verbiage looks impressive, but it doesn’t support the subject of Steven’s blog post.
How is evidence of unusual cold less relevant than evidence of unusual heat? Simply stating that it’s irrelevant doesn’t make it so. Tony made the point that today’s warmth is far from unprecedented, and Gail presented evidence that it’s also not global. While not directly related to a tornado in Wisconsin 45 years ago, it plainly supports the overall thrust of Tony’s arguments.
Do you have any evidence to refute those points?
Actually it is quite relevant since the early 1970s weather pattern and the current weather pattern are very similar with record lows and record highs due to a ‘loopy’ jet stream causing a ‘polar vortex’ or as it was called in the late 1960s early 1970s the Polar Express along with an unseasonable highs in other areas.
Steven gets into it in this post:
Time Magazine Goes Both Ways On The Polar Vortex
Here is last year’s polar vortex that brought cold to the east coast and warm to the west coast.
https://stevengoddard.files.wordpress.com/2014/01/screenhunter_257-jan-22-17-17.gif
This year it has shifted so the cold is on the west coast.
It is the same weather pattern. A highly meridional jet stream which is a change from the zonal flow of the 1980s up until recently.
Why is this important?
Because a meridional jet stream pattern seems to be a cooling earth pattern and may be heralding cooling to come as predicted by several scientists.
https://stevengoddard.files.wordpress.com/2014/01/shockingpolarvortexfrom20000yearsagovs20140122v001.png
No, M.Winston Smith I am addressing this lie you and the MSM told:
That is the poit both Steven and I are addressing and trying to bring some balance to the reporting.
That is typical behaviour for gail. since she can’t dazzle us with brilliance she has to bloviate troll nonsense.
Gee that’s awful un-Christian of you to say Larry, especially right around Christmas.
Why do you say that, is it your position that being honest and telling the truth is unchristian?
I’m just repeating one of your lessons Larry. Or has your addled mind forgotten? Bearing false witness against your neighbor is a sin, and you lied about Gail. Care to have a discussuion of facts, and not your opinions?
Lawrence! Welcome back but it’s sad to see you still harbor so much hatred. Why so much anger?
And how’s Devine Miss M? Did you groupies get time off for New Year’s romp? And what did the Divine Diva contribute to climate science today?
