In The Wake Of Sandy, Sea Level Scum Floats To The Surface

Some researchers said the 39-inch rise a state science panel expects by year 2100 may be far too low. Other new studies say North Carolina is part of an Atlantic coast “hot spot” where seas are rising far faster than in the rest of the world.

“We’re going to have a meter of sea-level rise. I can’t tell you if it will be 50 years or 100 years from now,” said panel member Rob Young, who leads the Program for the Study of Developed Shorelines at Western Carolina University.

Sea level is actually rising more slowly in North Carolina (2.0 mm/year) than the claimed global average of 3.1 mm/year. If the long term trend continued, North Carolina would see less than seven inches of sea level rise by 2100.

But it is worse than it seems. Since 1990, sea level in North Carolina has been rising at less than half a millimetre per year. If the post-1990 trend continued, North Carolina would see  less than two inches of sea level rise by the year 2100.

Satellite measurements show essentially no change in sea level along the North Carolina and Virginia coasts since the start of records.

Rob Young’s claims are off by more than 2500%. Western Carolina University should be held accountable for this.

Deep holes these cats be diggin’!

  2. So what is their point? Are they suggesting climate change is not hapenning?

The most important mathematical formula for univerities looking for funding is:

    (0 sea level rise=0 grants).

Pathetic when you realize these universities allow their reputations to be trashed by these fakes that call themselves scientists . Thses charlatans are continually claiming accuracy of measurement to miniscual degree in order to be able to claim agw is real . These measurements of degrees that don’t rise above the level of error in order to claim some proof of agw are now bordering on the criminal as the equipment used in the measurements is admited to be inaccurate and in need of improvement . As sources of information I point to the articles presented here on Real Science and at What’s Up With That in just the last week where we learned of the need for new measureing devices in order to be accurate in the measurement of sea level , ice mass and other areas of dispute in the agw agenda . It looks to me as though the agw advocates have a continueing record of pulling numbers from where the sun don’t shine .

  5. A new paper suggests that there is a natural 60 year oscillation for sea level changes and that the North Atlantic, along with most oceans, has been in the “increasing phase” since 1985.

Is the land where they are measuring from sinking? That is part of the problem around where I am is good fashioned plate tectonics and subsiding of land (which was previously water but was filled in).

  7. The problem is you’re looking at the data and not someone’s model.

    There, fixed it for him.
