Weights And Measures Quiz

A lot of people on the other side of this debate seem to have difficulty with scale (Greenland melting in four days etc.) probably because they have been telling people for their entire adult life that three inches is actually six inches.

I put together a quiz to help out. Order these from left to right. Some are in metric units and some are English.

.762×39  .762×54  .545 .22LR .556 0.50 .22HMR

Bonus question. What is .223 inches in centimetres?

    22LR, 22HMR, .545, .566, 7.63X39, 7.62X54, 0.50

  2. Les Johnson says:

Crow, rabbit, antelope, deer, elk, moose, bear (from 1 1/2 kilometers).

    In that order.

In Chicago they have a quiz too. Look at the following graph and answer True or False to the following statement:

The Chicago hand gun ban was a smashing success and proof that taking guns away from law abiding citizens lowers gun violence.

22LR,22magnum,5.56×39,5.54×39,7.62×39,7.62×54,50BMG. This looks like the row of cartridges standing on my monitor except that I have a 300 AAC Blackout instead of the M43.

    • Almost perfect, except that you said .554 and probably meant .545. Speaking of which, my Saiga .545 Christmas present is scheduled to arrive at my FFL today.

      • Denis says:

Excellent. You have previously mentioned that you shoot at distance. What range do you consider the maximum effective for that light round and a 10 inch target? The scope mount for my 5.56 with 20″ barrel is in the mail and I haven’t had it out yet.

      • .545 range is about the same as .556 (800+ yards) but this rifle has a short barrel so I don’t expect it to be very accurate beyond 400 yards.

  5. Denis says:

Ha! I need to drink less coffee.

  6. Bloke down the pub says:

My granny used to tell stories of how she worked at the Woolwich arsenal during WW1 , making bullets(.300in?) for export to Russia. From the number of complaints they received about duds, it is quite possible that she played a part in the collapse of the Russian army, the rise of bolshevism and everything that followed.

  7. Bruce says:

    Left to right:

    Michael E Mann
    James Hansen
    Steve McIntyre
    Jo Nova
    Steven Goddard
    Anthony Watts
FOIA (not shown: 220,000 more rounds in storage)

Bonus question answer: Whatever you want it to be (after adjustments)

  8. Everything to the left of .50 are too small for me to recognize!
