Well of course, everybody knows the buildings in an urban area are “stealing” heat that would otherwise heat the air so of course they have to account for that theft by raising the air temperatures to what they normally would have been if not for the theft.
It’s a no-brainer.
A few years ago skeptics thought government science might be a little corrupted as regards AGW.
Now some of us suspect the entire scientific research structure has been compromised beyond repair.
When a science paper contradicts the UN’s IPCC about CO2- induced global warming, the whole research journal gets terminated !

Correct me if i’m wrong, but basically they are massaging temps ‘up’ even as UHI would be increasing. Shouldn’t they be adjusting down to adjust for UHI?

Steve, if you are so sure you are right and you haven’t cooked your presentation, why don’t you send it all off to one of the many scientific journals that would love to have your scoop to parade before the wider scientific community. You could be a world hero for uncovering such a massive historically significant scam.
Like the journal that was put out of business last week for publishing a skeptical paper.
So, could you give us the whole story on that. I prefer to see the whole story and make my own conclusions about what happened.

Interesting. Virtually no difference up to the mid-1960’s. Then, the discrepancy increases gradually until it reaches around 0.5F p.a. by 1999. So, whatever they were correcting for only starts in the ’60’s and is apparently such a strong cooling influence on urban centers that it’s increased to UHI + 0.5F since then. I may be obtuse, but I can’t think what it could be.
People are generally fatter & clumsier than they were in the 1960s, & keep dropping their ice-cream cones on the thermometers, causing a spurious cooling trend which our scientific betters have corrected for.

See, in the 1960s-1970s they were absolutely confident we were all going to die due to global cooling. This resulted in the development of many of the climate agencies we still have with us till today. School grants to study the oncoming doomsday also skyrocketed because of the threat that desperately needed to be addressed. So those agencies and schools start sending their scientists around the world to study the devastation taking place. As the years progressed, the doomsday that was global cooling of course followed the arch of bell-bottoms, but the much, much more definite global warming arose in its place. The science was settled. It was actually going to kill us all, and they were really, really serial this time. More and more scientists were needed all over the world.
Just visualize the progression of it. In the 60s, you probably had a fairly large handful, but not a ton, of scientists who were sent out on assignment studying the apocalyptic times. Gradually, that number increased to unbelievable levels today to combat the much more real doomsday they foresaw this time around
Well, maybe we are just adjusting for all the endless spewing of pure hot air those @ssholes would normally be releasing in the urban areas? Makes sense to me, at least…
