During 2003 to 2008, the mass gain of the Antarctic ice sheet from snow accumulation exceeded the mass loss from ice discharge by 49 Gt/yr (2.5% of input), as derived from ICESat laser measurements of elevation change. The net gain (86 Gt/yr) over the West Antarctic (WA) and East Antarctic ice sheets (WA and EA) is essentially unchanged from revised results for 1992 to 2001 from ERS radar altimetry

Since then, Antarctic sea ice has also set an all-time record, and alarmists have gotten stuck in the excess ice. None of this worked for the political agenda, so they simply sponsored a new “study” which concluded :
Three years’ worth of readings from the European Space Agency’s CryoSat 2 satellite indicate that Antarctica’s ice sheets are losing 159 billion tons of ice per year — which is twice as much as the estimates from previous altimeter surveys.

Previous altimeter surveys showed that Antarctica was gaining ice, not losing it. Unlike sea ice, which anyone can analyze in two dimensions – altimetry of land ice involves changes in the third dimension, which is not visible from photography. Thus they can switch their story, and no one can prove them wrong – except for themselves, who already did.
Every climate story reverses to support the agenda. NASA used to say the US is cooling. Now they say it is warming. NASA used to say Antarctica is cooling. Now they say it is warming. NASA used to say we were headed into an ice age by 2021, now they say we are headed for a meltdown. NASA used to say that satellite temperatures were more accurate, now they ignore them.
It’s like the boy who cried wolf. Now nobody believes them.
Except the party in power in Washington…so it’s (a lot) worse than your comment makes out, because we’re being tyrannized in the name of this fraudulent science (and for every other reason they can think of, to “transform” us all, so they think in their deluded minds).
Schizophrenia is extremely dangerous and highly contagious amongst government experts. The only treatment is to lock them up for at least 20 years.
This 159 cubic km is a load of crap.
Spread across 14 million square km, that’s 11 millimetres, by my calculations. So the ACORN satellite can measure an entire continents surface area to that level of accuracy!! and that surface is moving laterally, albeit slowly?! Are these guys from the Starship Enterprise?
Go on. Pull the other one! It plays “I’m dreaming of a white Christmas.”
The most damning statistic about CryoSat 2 is that it only repeats its ground track once every 369 days. It will take rather a long time to reduce error at that frequency of observation, by which time the ice will have moved. In my view, its measurements should be taken with a very large pinch of salt.

NASA has outlived its usefulness, so it has gotten into the weather business. Bring back the NACA.
What? NASA has a very serious mission that will likely take many generations to complete, making Muslims feel better. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure this out.
