  1. RAH says:

But climate change will be the culprit that brought the snow on too! So once again we will see that there is absolutely no way that AGW or humane caused climate change hypothesis can be falsified.

  2. Thomas Robbins says:

These are hyperfocus issues – you hyperfocus on weather, and in the back of your mind you think it has never happened before (often helped along by the media) – but then why do they have the tradition of pulling punxsutawney phil out of his hole FEB 2 to see if we will have six more weeks of winter? BECAUSE, it is not at all odd to have a warm up in February. You could point to many springs that “came early” and then winter has its revenge – its called weather. I myself took advantage of the most gorgeous Feb weather we had for a few weeks – sky so blue it looked fake.. As a side note, my memory as a child is that in St. Louis, we had huge snows quite often, and school closures – truth is, looking up NOAA’s own data, St. louis only has a 5 + inch snow event, about every 4 years, and a blizzard type event once a decade! It indicated most snows are just a light < 1 inch event, and that has been what it was like THIS year – about 3 winters ago we had 4 or 5 BIG snows (now I am also remembering the mid 70's, and it was a VERY COLD period as we all know – so memory and hyperfocus on an issue, can convince some people of anything – especially when it is constantly reinforced by idiots in the press. One more point – just because you have not lived through a normal warming cycle, does not mean it never happened, a huge trap many get into – I have a feeling if I could talk to someone who lived through the US summers in the early and mid 30's, they would laugh at us for thinking a few days of 95 degrees is a heatwave – IN FACT, I DO recall as a child, blistering hot summers in St. Louis, where we had several consecutive days over 100 – has not happened in my adult life. If anything, I think temp extremes have moderated a bit, with some less cold winters, and cake walk summers – of course this will change…I believe it already is..

    • RAH says:

Last spring was nice because we had little severe weather and the summer here in central Indiana was wonderfully mild and the nice weather lasted well into the fall. I wouldn’t mind a repeat.

    • rw says:

      Very nicely put.

This is beginning to remind me of something I read about several years ago when I was looking into the psychology of rumor. Some eager beavers were able to spark a social hysteria around the supposed mutilation of cattle that had died on ranch lands. (There’s a book on the subject that I think is a classic, called Mute Evidence.) It involved the same kind of “hyperfocus”, as you say:- people had never looked closely at dead cattle rotting in the fields (why should they?), but spurred on by a few heated reports, they began to, and when they did they noticed that various soft parts were missing (eaten by small mammals and birds, actually). As a result, a lot of people who should have known better began to think something spooky was going on.

Recently came across an opinion piece

I was prompted to respond with a comment
    ——-
Unless CAGW is falsifiable, it is NOT science. The claims of consensus about CAGW have been debunked. If it is ‘settled’ it isn’t really science. Why are there constant adjustments necessary to measured temperatures? Why do recent charts of temperature history not match charts that were done previously by same people? How come the arctic sea ice isn’t all gone yet, despite the alarmist predictions over and over that it would be? Why do the balloon radiosonde and satellite records, not match the ‘adjusted’ ground temperature records?

You’ve been lied to and you’ve swallowed it all. Next time someone claims some recent high temp record has been broken, check to see if it is just in the last 30 years, or if that is an all-time high temp record. Most all-time high-temp records were set in the 30’s.

What would convince you that CAGW is a hoax? If there is nothing that would convince you, then your belief is based on religion and not actually on science.
    ——-
Don’t know if they will actually let it pass moderation.

Here is my reality: Forecast for my location in New Hampshire for Saturday, March 11, 2017.

Day: Cloudy. High 14F. Winds WNW at 15 to 25 mph.
Evening: A few clouds. Low 1F. Winds NW at 10 to 15 mph.

    It’s an early Spring!! (LOL)

  5. cdquarles says:

For most of my life, spring arrives around March 21st. I don’t recall a March 22nd start. I do recall a few March 20th starts. What the weather will be like is 70s/40s, +/- 20, winds from 0 to 20, gusts maybe 30+ and most likely from 145 to 360 degrees by the compass, sunny, rainy, occasionally snowy.

  6. The Iconoclast says:

Oh that’s OK, all that late snow proves global warming too!

  7. Andy says:

The Antarctic has had the longest melt season on record.

    By far.

How come no mention on here, apart from by me?

Compare that to claims of Arctic longest melt season last few years when actually it wasn’t.

Is there equivalent of fake news called IgnoredNews ?

    ;)

    Andy

    • AndyG55 says:

Ignore news is the flip-side of the Jet Stream weather event

The HUMAN side in northern Russia that AGW slime-bags like you ignore.

      https://www.rt.com/news/russia-freeze-cold-temperature-379/

AGW slimebags put a tiny reduction in Arctic sea ice, ahead of massive freezing and deaths in northern Russia.

And you wonder why you get treated like the scum that you are !!!

    • AndyG55 says:

Antarctic has always bounced up and down.

Nothing to do with global warming

ALL to do with natural climate cycles and ocean currents..

    • Colorado Wellington says:

CO2 ends winter early. Then it makes winter come back again. CO2 melts Antarctica. Then it makes it freeze again. I don’t know what made Andy post about Antarctica under a post about progressive religious beliefs of the Timesmen but I have a strong suspicion.

      CO2 made him do it.

It is the most powerful substance on Earth.

      By far.

Unlike Western ClimAstrologists, Russian scientists are free of CAGW Lysankoism, and been warning the Russian people of the cold period -Little Ice Age to come.

October 22, 2016 – “The Earth is heading towards another ice age as solar magnetic activity is set to drop by up to 60 per cent in the next 15 years,” warns new study.

Experts say that solar activity has not been this low since the Maunder Minimum, a period of low sunspot activity between 1645 and 1715 when the entire Thames froze over. That period is also considered the deepest part of the last “Little Ice Age.” Valentina Zharkova from Northumbria University, who applied this theory to the Sun, says she can predict the affects of solar cycles with 97 per cent accuracy.

Based on her findings, Ms Zharkova says the next solar cycle is set to peak in 2022, and the cycle after that, Cycle 26, will herald a new ice age.

November 17, 2016 – A New Little Ice Age has begun, says Russian scientist

Not at some future date, mind you, but right now. The new Little Ice Age has already started.

In his new book, Evidence-Based Climate Science: ‘Data Opposing CO2 Emissions as the Primary Source of Global Warming, astrophysicist Dr. Habibullo Abdussamatov warns that a new Little Ice Age has begun.

A highly qualified and highly regarded scientist, Dr Abdussamatov is Head of Space Research Laboratory at the Pulkovo Observatory of the Russian Academy of Sciences, St. Petersburg, Russia.

      Abstract

Since 1990, the Sun has been in the declining phase of the quasi-bicentennial variation in total solar irradiance (TSI). The decrease in the portion of TSI absorbed by the Earth since 1990 has remained uncompensated by the Earth’s long-wave radiation into space at the previous high level because of the thermal inertia of the world’s oceans.

As a result, the Earth has – and will continue to have – a negative average annual energy balance and a long-term adverse thermal condition.

The quasi-centennial epoch of the new Little Ice Age started at the end 2015 after the maximum phase of solar cycle 24. The start of a solar grand minimum is anticipated in solar cycle 27 ± 1 in 2043 ± 11 and the beginning of phase of deep cooling in the new Little Ice Age in 2060 ± 11.

The gradual weakening of the Gulf Stream leads to stronger cooling in the zone of its action in western Europe and the eastern parts of the United States and Canada. Quasi-bicentennial cyclic variations of TSI together with successive very important influences of the causal feedback effects are the main fundamental causes of corresponding alternations in climate variation from warming to the Little Ice Age.

I live in Nashville, Tennessee. We are supposed to get 1-3″ inches of snow tomorrow night … yes, that’s right .. 1-3″ inches of snow, in Nashville, on freaking March 10th !!!!

Are you kidding me? … Early spring my ass … and where the hell is the “global warming” ?? … according to Tony’s wonderful little temperature data application, the State of Tennessee hasn’t seen any change in average temperature since 1880’s … give me a break!

HA! Glad I’m not driving into Crashville, TN this weekend. Went through twice this week and once was during the last of the afternoon rush on I-65 and that’s bad enough when the weather is fine! At least it was early morning when I went down to Shelbyville, because IMO I-24 is worse than I-65 during the high traffic hours.

      • Squidly says:

Oh gosh, no kidding RAH. I-64, I-25 and I-40 are ambulance chasers dreams. I avoid those freeways like the plague during rush hour. Fortunately for me, my commute to work is on back roads that rarely have much traffic.

A new twist to Liar Liar Pants On Fire!!!

A Miami defense lawyer’s pants burst into flames Wednesday afternoon as he began his closing arguments in front of a jury – in an arson case.
Stephen Gutierrez, who was arguing that his client’s car spontaneously combusted and was not intentionally set on fire, had been fiddling in his pocket as he was about to address jurors when smoke began billowing out his right pocket, witnesses told the Miami Herald.
He rushed out of the Miami courtroom, leaving spectators stunned. After jurors were ushered out, Gutierrez returned unharmed, with a singed pocket, and insisted it wasn’t a staged defense demonstration gone wrong, observers said.
Instead, Gutierrez blamed a faulty battery in an e-cigarette, witnesses told the Miami Herald.

Now why can’t that happen to a bunch of Urinalists too?

Oh the Urinalists are now whinying because T-Rex won’t take them on his plane on his visits to China Korea and Japan.
