The month is half over, and so far Iowa temperatures have been the coldest since 1969. With record cold forecast for the coming week, it is possible that this will be the coldest March since 1965 in Iowa, and the fifth coldest on record.

Iowa is looking very cold this week, looking to log a -4.5°C.
The last six days of the month aren’t looking too much warmer, probably around 0-1°C (less if one of these storms forecast this week leave enough snowpack for clear sky high pressure expected in week two). That should likely keep Iowa’s final March temperature right around where it is now, which would be between 5th and 8th coldest.
Just about all regions across the Upper Midwest and points southeast to the coast should have a top ten coldest March. Due to the northern New England warmth in the beginning of the month the Northeast will likely be close to normal after the second half of the month cool down.
