A year or so ago I had a substantial sum of money in Bank of Cyprus. But I also follow international economics fairly closely and I started to get nervous about the European situation. Of course, lots of people would have laughed my concerns off. This would *never* happen, they would say… Anyway, I pulled all my money out and at the time transferred it to Citibank. (Not that I think Citibank is much more solvent than Bank of Cyprus but the US government has greater resources to keep it floating).
So what has this got to do with gun control? Just pointing out that scenarios that *sound* far fetched to complacent people, sometimes don’t turn out as far fetched in the long run as one might hope. Knowing what’s going on in the world around you is useful.*
*And no, I don’t keep any cash in Citibank any longer either.
Not sure where that Germany figure comes from, and numbers can be fungible, but the message is 100% correct. Anyone who thinks it cannot happen again is an arrogant ass, who foolishly underestimates those that went before them.
Strauss and Howe’s book, The Fourth Turning (1997), has forecast in great detail what is likely to happen during the 2000-2020 crisis period and why. I find it amazing how accurate the forecasts have been. Every 80 years (one human lifetime) there is a major conflict during the Crisis decades.
Obama seems to be putting in place the ingredients for the next big conflict this decade just as Hitler did in the 1930’s, Lincold did in the 1860’s and mad King George III did in 1780’s.

In a previous career in which I wore a uniform, I wrote a paper on the subject called “Global Leadership: Decision 2020”. I did not realise at the time I had discovered a plan, and it is startling to see it develop.
I was really pretty close.
