Well Behaved Guns

I went shooting Saturday morning. There were lots of people, with all kinds of pistols, shotguns and rifles – yet none of the weapons went rogue and attacked anyone.

I did however nearly get hit by a car on my bike ride in the afternoon. Apparently we need car control, not gun control.

I’ve never felt threatened by a gun in my life but I have to put up with on average one (1) close call per hour of road riding which means 100’s of near misses per year. The worst part is knowing that if I were hit the driver will likely get away with it even if there is video evidence and witnesses…case in point: http://www.bicyclelaw.com/news/n.cfm//cyclists-react-with-anger-after-grand-jury-returns-no-indictment

There is virtually no gun crime in the county where I live. We sleep with our windows open in the summer, and nobody needs a gate on their drive. The last gun crime was a crazy son who killed his father about two years ago. Everyone here is armed, and only an idiot or crazy person would try to attack someone here.

It sounds like an ongoing conflict with the auto industry, Steve. Maybe you should focus on mountain biking.

Thousands of people are killed by automobiles each year. So why don’t we ban cars? It’s not the speeder or reckless or drunken driver who’s at fault; it’s the car. Let’s remove all cars with eight cylinders from the road. Why not ban them altogether. Let’s force people to ride bicycles. No, those are also dangerous. Let’s force everyone to ride in rickshaws. After all, safety is our only concern.
