The Arctic has always had giant swarms of mosquitoes. The pictures below were scientists in Siberia circa 1910 searching for the Tunguska meteor. They had to say in mosquito netting 24×7 to stay alive.

    Yes Tony I remember when seeing many years ago the Tunguska film taken in 1928 I believe; the sheer size, numbers and sheer aggression of those blighters . I believe its the coldness that produces their pattern of behaviour and possibly size as they only have a short burst of brief summer life and intend to use every second of it sucking blood from whatever is alive. Sound typically like the left.

    I lived in the Arctic for a few years. We had a mosquito land at our airport and we pumped 600 gallons of JP5 into that bugger before ewe realized it wasn’t a 747.
