Father Of Global Warming Saw It As A Good Thing

The father of global warming saw burning coal and doubling CO2 as a huge benefit to mankind. His temperature forecasts were absurd, but he did understand that CO2 was a benefit to plants.

You’re right, and you’re also a lonley voice in the wilderness.

Arrhenius later determined in the lab that all the IR frequencies that could be absorbed by the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere were being absorbed; that is the CO2 was saturated with respect to those IR frequencies. Hence, at that point, it was thought that additional CO2 would make no difference. That was before there was an understanding of quantum mechanics.

However, in atmospheric heat transfer, I am finding that although saturation may be occurring closer to the surface of the earth, the heat transfer is mainly kinetic and there is little or no increase in downwelling radiation to the earths surface. At the center of the hypothesis is concept of feedback which would cause an increase in water vapor (humidity) near the earths surface.
The fact that there is no warm spot near the equator, where much of the earth’s surface is water is direct evidence that the fundamental hypothesis is incorrect.

” the fundamental hypothesis is incorrect” you can bet on it. The SURFACE of the ocean does not obey the laws of thermodynamics and because of surface tension on the surface blocks heat transfer. The sun’s radiation will penetrate the surface heat itself will not. The surface of water and the body of water are not quite the same thing.

    • Gail Combs says:

At the surface IR absorbed by CO2 is handed off via collision to other molecules mainly Nitrogen. In other words in the troposphere all CO2 does is aid conduction.

It is only in the stratosphere that the time to collision is more than the time to transmission of IR radiation. According to Dr Happer measurements show CO2 barely starts radiating at 13 kilometer above the earths surface and the main transmission layer is at 47 kilometers.

Dr. Happer’s lecture shoots CAGW full of holes.

The present proportion of carbon dioxide in the air is about one part in 2,500.

What the Hell were the burning/smokin’ in 1910?

Arrhenius found goodness in higher atmospheric concentrations of CO2…
I agree; a warmer planet with more CO2 to fertilize plants is more pleasant and abundant.
Why is a warmer planet only bad? “They” need a boogeyman.
