Sea level at Manhattan has been steadily rising about 2.84 mm/year since Abraham Lincoln was president, mainly due to land subsidence. President Obama believes that he can slow the rate of sea level rise at Manhattan, by making electricity prices skyrocket.

Manhattan was on the edge. Canada is rising as the east coast sinks in response.
There is a moraine in Westchester County. I lived on top of the darn thing. The copperheads loved it.

Gail, speaking of the Hudson River, how much is the water level at Battery Park influenced by the river flow. Also considering the build up into the river, how much higher is the water level an effect of the reduced cross section.
River flow down the Hudson is seasonal….high in the spring, low in the summer and fall, zero in the winter. You can look at each year and see how much the sea level at the Battery changes with the season…..very little.
A large part of Long Island was formed as terminal moraine from that ice sheet.
There are a number of coastal bits of land along the shores of Manhattan, Queens, and Brooklyn that were man made. When building in a crowded urban environment a whole lot of surface dirt and rock has to be moved and put somewhere. The bigger the buildings the more they had to move and do something with. Often it was found the most economic solution was to haul it to the coastal areas or shores of the river and dump it there to form new land. They have found bits of such man made land complete with sunken wooden small craft and pilings placed to help retain it dating back to the 1700s.
Retrofitting a coal plant has nothing to do with carbon emissions, this is for reducing pollutants released into the air.
Obama is confusing carbon with pollutants.
