The Maldives Urgent Plea Of 1997

In 1997, the president of the Maldives told the UN that they were going to drown unless everyone cut back on their CO2 usage 20% by 2005. The EU proposed a more conservative target of 15% cutbacks by 2010

Since they made this urgent plea, sea level has risen half an inch at the Maldives, threatening to drown small immobile insects.

Global CO2 emissions are up 50% since 1997, and rising fast. People burn fossil fuels because they want to live healthy, pleasant lives with modern conveniences.

We are watching the largest comedy of morons in history. Nothing they believe has any connection to reality, yet they persist in their irrational superstitions about a harmless trace gas.

Like most other religions, this insanity could go on indefinitely.

The president of the Maldives was worried that people in 2100 would be harmed by rising seas
in 2100, yet no one alive in 1997 would even be alive in 2100. You would think that someone
would have noticed the water coming up to their shoe tops a few years before then, and MOVE!

Do they still encourage investment in the Maldives?
…creates an interesting moral quandary, does it not..?

BUT they’re still there & since then they’ve built 100s of hotels & several more airports……by dredging the protective coral reef to build the runways !!
Nobody would be investing in hotels & airports if they thought that infrastructure would be flooded in the next 50 yrs let alone 7yrs.
The best way the Maldives could reduce their contribution to increased CO2 in the atmosphere would be to close all the tourist resorts on their islands & refuse all international flights.

Maldives coralline atolls have been formed by the total reduction of a volcanic bed beneath the ocean. The volcanic bed roofed the same area the Maldives occupy at present. As the volcanic activity declined, the volcanic bed was sunk gradually. Eventually, the islands ended being submerged totally; nevertheless, the corals continued growing at their perimeters. The continued growth of these coralline reefs upwards (up to 80 mm per year), on the submerged volcanic bed gave rise to the formation of the Maldives coral atolls.

So it has nothing to do with rising sea levels…
But everything to do with sinking of a volcanic stack & coral growth.
