More Guns – Less Murders

Guns are the “national pastime” of Colorado. AR-15’s, Mini-14’s and AK-47’s everywhere. Gun shows every weekend.

Our murder rates are plummeting.

  1. That’s “Fewer” Murders…(thanks, that’s good). xo, Kathleen Use fewer if you’re [ referring ]( http://www.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/english/refer ) to people or things in the [ plural ]( http://www.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/english/plural ) (e.g. houses, newspapers, dogs, students, children). For example: People these days are buying fewer newspapers. Fewer students are opting to study science-related subjects. Fewer than thirty children each year develop the disease. Use less when you’re referring to something that can’t be counted or doesn’t have a plural (e.g. money, air, time, music, rain). For example: It’s a better job but they pay you less money. People want to spend less time in traffic jams. [ Ironically ]( http://www.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/english/ironically ), when I’m on tour, I listen to less music. Less is also used with numbers when they are on their own and with expressions of [ measurement ]( http://www.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/english/measurement ) or time, e.g.: His weight fell from 18 stone to less than 12. Their marriage lasted less than two years. Heath Square is less than four miles away from Dublin city centre. You can read more about using less and fewer on the [ Oxford Dictionaries blog ]( http://blog.oxforddictionaries.com/2012/08/less-or-fewer/ ). Here you will find tips on how to use less and fewer [ correctly ]( http://www.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/english/correctly ) as well as exceptions to the ge

Stop you are confusing the liberals. The president believes gun violence is caused by global warming which is why we need to ban guns. Yes. That is what passes for logic in the mind of a liberal.

  3. 49erfan7 says:

Be careful, the liberals (the same ones who religiously believe in climate change) will accuse you or slanting and distorting the data. Other than adding the government retaining the universal background check information (currently the 4473 info is purged), California already has Obummer’s “common sense” new laws. You can see how they did not work here. Having a registry of people’s names, addresses and what guns they owned would not have stopped the killers in San Bernadino.

An armed society is a polite society.

The red county I live in is swimming in firearms, of all types. My neighbors and I shoot for recreation as well as hunting. You can hear gunshots just about every day here, and yet we have had only one homicide in 15 years, and that was a mentally ill man who shot his father with a shotgun. Two counties over in the democrat run city, they hear gunshots daily, and have daily homicides. Of course it has nothing to do with demographics.

    • Ted says:

The blue county I live in has had at least three nationally reported mass murders in the past ten years, that I can remember off the top of my head. Sadly, I doubt my county has that much bigger a population than yours. (about 400,000, spread over more than twice the area of Rhode Island) I’ve never run the numbers, but I strongly suspect that rich, liberal, Santa Barbara, has the highest per capita mass murder rate in the country.

    NO-ish Guns – Less Murders
Gun Murders in England, Scotland and Wales 2011/12
Population of Britain (combined England, Scotland and Wales) in last census 2011 = 61,370,912

    more details – http://www.citizensreportuk.org/reports/murders-fatal-violence-uk.html

UK = 0,071% gun deaths per 100,000 • USA is about 3.5; approx 50x as many
I think every American should be aloud to shoot 1 fellow contryman

    • 90% of murders in the UK do not involve guns. Killers use knives and other weapons. Children get raped by rape gangs every few minutes.

Your dishonest straw man is stunning.

        Intentional homicides (per 100,000 people)
        USA 2013.
        All homicides
        Number of deaths: 16,121
        Deaths per 100,000 population: 5.1
        Firearm homicides
        Number of deaths: 11,208
        Deaths per 100,000 population: 3.5
        http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/fastats/homicide.htm

Looks like 69% of All homicides are by gun !!

        In UK 2013.
5% of All homicides are by gun
35% by knife or broken bottle
        From – http://www.ons.gov.uk/ons/rel/crime-stats/crime-statistics/focus-on-violent-crime-and-sexual-offences–2012-13/rpt—chapter-2—homicide.html

        FATAL SHOOTINGS:
UK incidences of fatal shootings: 55 (THOSB – CEW, page 63, paragraph 3.)
        55 / 561 = 0.09
        US incidences of fatal shootings: 67.7% (FBI – CUS[/url) of 14,612 = 9892.2
        9892.2 / 3116 = 3.17

•You are thus 35.2x (3.17 / 0.09) more likely to be shot dead in the US than in the UK.•

        KNIFE CRIME:
UK incidences of knife crime: 32,714 (THOSB – CEW, page 18, paragraph 1.)
        32,714 / 561 = 58.3.
US incidences of knife crime: 19.1% of 751,131. (FBI – CUS) = 142,714.89
        142,714.89 / 3116 = 45.8

•You are thus 1.27x (58.3 / 45.8) more likely to be knifed in the UK than in the US.•

Americans do have a reputation for being trigger-happy & the figures seem to corroborate that view.

It is an urban issue, not American issue. My county is safer than your country.

        • AndyG55 says:

Down here we generally don’t have guns, and its a pretty safe place.

I think its more a matter of the culture of the place, the weapon used may be quite incidental.

          http://www.aic.gov.au/statistics/homicide.html

I do understand that in a country of fairly easy gun availability, its probably not a bad idea for most people to have a gun.

When I lived out bush for a while, basically every farmer had guns and knew how to use them. Mainly hunting rifles as opposed to more aggressive types of firearms like AK’s etc.

I don’t actually know of anyone around here that has guns…. but they might.

Americans do have a reputation for being trigger-happy……..you can’t compare gun crime the way you are doing it…The U.S. and UK do not record gun crimes the same way…and over 60% of our “gun crime” is suicides

“you can’t compare gun crime the way you are doing it…The U.S. and UK do not record gun crimes the same way…and over 60% of our “gun crime” is suicides”
          Yes we can !!
The figs I quoted didn’t include the suicides & as you say are much higher ~x2.
          Firearm suicides
          Number of deaths: 21,175
          Deaths per 100,000 population: 6.7

          http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/fastats/suicide.htm
          Firearm homicides
          Number of deaths: 11,208
giving a total of firearm deaths ~32,380 ….in one year.
          for scale –
My local town has a population of 11,431
My local university city has a population of 18,808

        • David A says:

The reporting methods are different. More then that guns save life, and prevent crime. Crime rates drop in heavy gun ownership areas as well. The USA is a more diverse culture then most EU nations, with inner city violence created by liberal policy and a broken inner city culture. Outside of that the US murder rate is equivalent to the UK, and the violent crime rate lower.

The Wall Street Journal reported, in an August 28, 1996 article titled, “More Guns, Less Violent Crime,” that a University of Chicago study revealed that states which passed concealed carry laws reduced their murder rate by 8.5%, rapes by 5%, aggravated assaults by 7% and robbery by 3%. The most impressive single statement in the University of Chicago Study, which is an ongoing study, is the very first sentence of the Abstract on the first page.
“Using cross-sectional time series data for U.S. counties from 1977 to 1992, we find that allowing citizens to carry concealed weapons deters violent crimes, without increasing accidental deaths.” – University of Chicago Study (1st line of Abstract)

A 1979 Carter Justice Department study found that of more than 32,000 attempted rapes, 32% were actually committed. That number dropped to only 3% when the woman was armed. That means that an unarmed woman is more than 10 times more likely to be raped than an armed woman. Think about it!

And finally, as a defense aginst government tyranny on its own population, a well armed populous is essential. Democide “death by government” was the largest killer in the 20th century, exceeding all killed in wars by other nations.

  6. Yes, but if you turn the graph upside-down the data speaks for itself
