The High Price Of Non-Belief

Government tells us that we must all believe in the climate prophesies and repent of our carbon sins, or a great flood, hell fire, famine and pestilence shall come. These are easy concepts to push, because every religion uses them to control their followers.

Climate Change

Famine and Death Global Warming as Concept

Famine and Death Global Warming as Concept

This is exactly the sort of flagrant abuse which the First Amendment was written to protect us from.

Amendment I. Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

To we celebrate the Feast of Divine Mercy, remembering that God is Love, calling us to repentance for our sins which offend His infinite goodness and cause us untold sorrow. If that is the “control” you speak of you have no concept of free will.

    • Marsh says:

In affect ; free will is sacrificed, if one is “totally” beholding to any God or Ideology.

      • Kathleen says:

Yes, God, not an ideology. Bear in mind that it is with the knowledge that this Bridegroom is divine. If you married, did you not promise to love, honor, and cherish your spouse, who is a mere human? Do you not often disregard your own comfort and wishes, with free will, for the good of the beloved? Would you not die for such a one? How much more for the Creator and Sustainer of all life?

        • David Smith says:

          Sorry, there is no creator.
Please leave superstition at your church door.o

        • Marsh says:

Kathleen ; there is a difference between being morally faithful to a partner or agreeing with everything they think & suggest ( you’re painting a picture with half the colors ).
In following any faith, one has to be aware of those bearing false witness, hearsay,
propaganda & even lost in translation. Today, we give little credence to a medical book that is 100 years old.! Should one commit to any book 100%.. especially if it predates Scientific understanding ( less than 1% of today ).
          …………………….
Currently, the “Media” get stories wrong on the day & not always by accident; should we not be “judgmental” of what’s written decades after an event in Ancient history by a third party,,, would it stand up in a Court of Law.? Today, we are aware that every Holy Book has mistakes / misinformation.! Again, it is one thing to have a faith, it is another to be “totally” accepting ; wisdom would be separating the fact from the fiction..!

      • Donna K. Becker says:

Effect and affect have different meanings.

        Always remember: it’s=it is.

  2. Kathleen says:

Darn iPad. First word should have been “Today”.

  3. omanuel says:

Thank you, Steven, for recognizing and commening on the striking similarity between dogmatic religion and dogmatic science, guided by blind arrogance and false pride.
“To know that you do not know is best.
To pretend to know what you do not know is disease.”

    • ALL mysticism, superstition, ignorance and faith is dogmatic by definition. It eschews evidence, freedom and reason, thereby embracing the alternative: falsehood, coercion and death. Why not look up dogma at http://www.aynrandlexicon.com for some mental clarity?

      • Kathleen says:

Dogma is teaching. Don’t scientists and even pseudo-scientists teach what they have learned, much of it needing to be “updated” with further knowledge? Having faith in God, who never changes, does not negate right reason. Having faith in science is a constant readjustment. I can live with science as long as I do not make it a religion, as so many do.

        • Krakatoa says:

Faith: where charlatans, climate alarmists, and con artists live, move, and have their being. Without faith, people would have to face reality.

  5. Marsh says:

Yes , the hell, fire & brimstone methodology used by Religious leaders,,, then again AGW has become a Religion in its own right, with its mantra & blind faith ; they even get the tax breaks & benefits. And like some Religions – it’s the “extremists” we have to be most concerned about ; they are the ones, of greatest threat to society.

    • Mysticism is watered down with enough hypocrisy to keep the altruism from killing them all–as at the People’s Temple in Guyana, or German Positive Christianity till 1945. The key here is how altruism–and the notion that communist countries are backward because you have not sacrificed enough for them–leads to the spurious conclusion that looters crippled by their own barbarism have a parasitical “right” to use coercion to exact transfer payments from those who prefer science and survival to coercive religion and death.

  7. omanuel says:

This brief historical summary of ethics and human rights in the scientific revolution was sent to the UN Secretary General, Presidents of the US National Academy of Sciences and the UK’s Royal Society, and the Editor of Nature on 30 March 2016:

    https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/10640850/Ethics_and_Human_Rights_in_the_Scientific_Revolution.pdf

AGW believers and skeptics should work together to restore human rights, integrity in government science, and constitutional limits on government.

  8. Marsh says:

geran says;”Not if that was a “free will” choice!”. I disagree, in most situations propaganda has the better of those that are susceptible to formal persuasion & they become “brainwashed”.
Do you actually think, Islamic suicide bombers act solely on free will OR for any child born to Parents strictly following a Religion.? Knowing what “free will” is: has been robbed from them.!

    • David A says:

Do not blame religion. People have mental illness, therefore all human organizations, have mental illness. Which is exactly why consolidating power over others into any one group, be it religious or corporate, or secular, (see hundreds of million dead at the hands of non religious governments) is ignorant stupidity, and why the US founding fathers were brilliant.

      • Marsh says:

Being a Religious extremist is a Mental Health issue without doubt. There should always be a balance with reality and adherence to ethical behavior… Bad leaders always bring out the worse in an organisation; but it takes sheeple to complete it.!

        • David A says:

Depends on the religion. Islamic extremists, no argument from me. Of course it depends on one’s definition of extremist and “reality” as well.

    • omanuel says:

Thank you, ren, for explaining how solar activity influences Earth’s climate.

Cycles of solar activity are not understood because FEAR of worldwide nuclear annihilation in AUG-SEPT 1945 (as described in the last sentence of the last paragraph of Aston’s 1922 Nobel Lecture) . . .

      http://veksler.jinr.ru/becquerel/text/books/aston-lecture.pdf

convinced world leaders to unite formerly independent nations and National Academies of Sciences under the United Nations on 24 OCT 1945 to hide the source of energy in atomic bombs.

This also deprived society of the PROMISE of “POWERS BEYOND THE DREAMS OF SCIENTIFIC FICTION” (as described in the first sentence of the last paragraph of Aston’s 1922 Nobel Lecture ).

The misuse of physical sciences to control society is an ongoing anthropologic problem.

  9. The word “free” is the linchpin of the First and Second Amendments. Michael Crichton identified econaziism as the most powerful religion, and there is no question of its reliance on mystical faith and altruism or of its penchant for the coercive exercise thereof. But the 1955 Solomon Asch Experiment on social pressure showed that only 1 in 4 people can see objective reality past the imaginings of fools. This means that in a democracy we must rely on third-party spoiler votes to leverage the political center of mass away from looter totalitarianism–kind of like how a few Australian sheepdogs guide huge flocks of sheep. This is why I support the libertarian party.

    • Donna K. Becker says:

And, therefore, Gary Johnson. To me, he appears to be the best candidate. However, is there any chance he could win? I’d love to discuss these issues further with you.

      • Gary is a weak candidate, but I am not concerned about HIS winning. What interests me is MY winning when his spoiler votes for the Libertarian Platform cause National Socialists (of “both” parties) to lose to someone less obnoxious and prompt other parties to change their platforms and repeal bad laws and taxes. http://www.libertariantranslator.com sums up the process and the definition of “winning”

  10. I recently translated a collection of National Socialist quotes from this website: http://www.nobeliefs.com/hitler.htm
From 1924 to 1939 all of that was good gospel, and Mein Kampf was praised, not criticized. George Orwell finally panned it on Britain’s involvement in armed conflict. There is the naked face of mystical altruism bound together by strands of racial collectivism that confronts us today. Every problem caused by superstitious overpopulation is now recast as an evil symptom of industrial society. Both major parties are awash in mutated religion of environmental (not racial) purity.

A random commentary from the web:

“-I’d suggest that maybe this will get Wall St’s attention, what with their own offices flooding, but, yeah, no. The little bleeps don’t care one bit.”

“-Having money, they’ll just move. Dealing with the consequences of climate change is for poor people. “

No, sir, people owning property in New York are not poor. The people who are poor have no problem moving where ever there is labor needed (or welfare given for free). Keeping the unemployment rate down is much better for poor people than implementing some very expensive schemes to protect seaside real estates.

    Manhatten will be under water?

Hmmmmmmm… Sounds like more of a feature instead of a bug.

  13. Tom Robbins says:

I love your blog, donate a few bucks here and there – you do a great job, and I do think AGW is a CULT, but to lump all religions into a bucket and say “that’s how they control people is silly – this is how some FRINGE factions and some religions I would call cults, control their followers. Christ was one of the most Non-religious figures, and faith, not man’s religion is what is important – their are as many different religions, and different practices their of, that to label gets things very confused – I will agree that some religions, and some sects of some religions, and ONE huge religion (a branch of my faith, does use their power, in a man made institution to control). But it is my belief system, that reminds me, that “The ends justify the means” type thinking is bull… But I get your point, maybe a little qualifier, as when man eliminates religion and tries to eliminate faith in a power greater than one-self, it produces these freaks that are the scum of the earth, that want to grab everything, and lord over others while they can.

  14. Tom Robbins says:

Science requires faith, and faith requires science (investigation for oneself).. faith does not = religion… thanks, I get the point though..

  15. Tom Robbins says:

Indulge me with one more post please – my Church, is one place I come together with like minded people, we do not think, AT ALL, that we are controlled by fear. It is a willing relationship, and that is common among most Christians. It’s not the Dark ages in Religion, but I fear it is going that way in science. Many incredible minds in physics, and in other disciplines, found faith through their science.. just a reminder, please don’t lump everyone into a group. AGW is a cult, and as you say, it has it’s end of the world and repentance mapped out (The Church of Al gore, passes around the plate) – but that is NOT how most places of worship operate – it is the media version of religions, very dangerous to knock all religion in my mind, just ask people under Stalin and Hitler (and no Hitler was not a Christian)… the constitution also protects the practice of religion – and if they would come out and say AGW is not a true theory, but a belief system, it too would be protected under the constitution but would be bared from influencing policy- since it is making very dangerous policy, it’s ring leaders should be jailed, or punished with fines, so I completely agree in that respect… I also do NOT believe in making policy from religious beliefs. I too waned Cruz in there until he flipped out, so now I would vote for Donald Duck let alone Donald Trump to keep the wicked witch of the south out of office. Keep up the good fight, and it’s about time I send another measly 5 bucks your way, I really wish I could send you more.

  16. That Adolf Hitler was a stout defender of and believer in Christian theology is clearly spelled out in everything he ever wrote and said–including his endorsement of Henry Ford. All you have to do is read the stuff and look at newspaper records from the 1930 and 1940s. The nationalsocialist intellectuals who surrounded him were–with one or two exceptions–dogmatically devout in their dedication to the Christian (as opposed to Jewish) faith. Nor was there any hesitation on their part to ally with Arab semites in efforts to attack all things Jewish. Google “willful blindness”

    • David A says:

Many claim Christianity. Hitler’s version was a strange one. Reminds me of a movie quote “For every Jew you can show me who is not a Christian, I can show you a Christian who is not a Christian.”
