An already relentless melting of the Arctic greatly accelerated this summer—a sign that some scientists worry could mean global warming has passed an ominous tipping point.

One scientist even speculated that summer sea ice could be gone in five years.

“The Arctic is screaming,” said Mark Serreze, senior scientist at the government’s snow and ice data center in Boulder, Colorado.

This week, after reviewing his own new data, NASA climate scientist Jay Zwally said: “At this rate, the Arctic Ocean could be nearly ice-free at the end of summer by 2012, much faster than previous predictions.”

What happens in the Arctic has implications for the rest of the world. Faster melting there means eventual sea level rise and more immediate changes in winter weather because of less sea ice.

In the United States, a weakened Arctic blast moving south to collide with moist air from the Gulf of Mexico can mean less rain and snow in some areas, including the drought-stricken Southeast, said Michael MacCracken, a former federal climate scientist who now heads the nonprofit Climate Institute.

Record Cold And Snow Destroy Global Warming Claims

    Excerpts:

This morning, stunning photos show New England lobster boats frozen in port, looking like they are stranded deep within the Arctic Circle. The boats have been frozen in place for weeks…

Connecticut is experiencing its coldest February in recorded history. So is Michigan. So is Toronto. Cleveland and Chicago are experiencing their second coldest February in recorded history. Frigid and record cold temperatures are being set from Key West to International Falls. At the same time, blizzard after blizzard is burying much of the nation with record winter snow totals, with winter snowfall records beings set from Boston to Denver.

Global warming activists are in full-throttle damage control, desperately claiming global warming causes record snow and cold.

I hear that people are complaining that when Punxsutawney Phil predicted six more weeks of winter they didn’t expect it to be “Ice Age” winter.

Here on my NY mountain it will be below zero at night all week long and until after March 7th! This is insanely cold for this time of year.

Methane craters in Siberia caused by 5 degree high temp. averages due to global warming? I guess Siberia climates have moved to us and ours to there’s?

  5. Frank K. says:

“Global warming activists are in full-throttle damage control, desperately claiming global warming causes record snow and cold.”

With this sort of logic, there is no way one could ** disprove ** anthropogenic global warming, which of course what the (progressive) activists want.

If it gets any warmer, we will all freeze to death.

““The Arctic is screaming,” said Mark Serreze, senior scientist at the government’s snow and ice data center in Boulder, Colorado.”

Attributing human emotion to an inanimate object in an effort to scare. It truly is science fiction.

  8. rah says:

About now, I wish they would have been correct. Is this friggin winter ever going to end?

    • Gail Combs says:

The party I was going to tomorrow just canceled. They still have 6 inches of snow and NC is not exactly know for their snow plowing and sanding. (It was 46F today so you get melt then frozen back to ice and black ice as the temperature heads back into the teens tommorow…)

  9. Dave N says:

I wonder if the “denier censors” will prevent people from pointing out things like this, even though they’re 100% true?
