Hottest Year Ever Update

England just had their 176th warmest summer on record. Their hottest summer occurred in 1976, at the peak of the ice age scare.

Government experts say that 2015 was the hottest ever in England, because they are criminals paid to lie for the White House.

  1. QV says:

The average Central England Temperature for August was 15.9c, or 0.1c above the 1961-90 mean, after a July of -0.1c and a June of -0.2c, so in average terms, this summer was almost exactly NORMAL.
For someone to refer to “record temperatures in England”, on one day in July, in this context, is highly misleading.

    • Bloke down the pub says:

For ‘one day in July’, read for 15mins, as measured by a thermometer alongside the taxiway at Heathrow airport, just after three super-heavies had gone past.

      • Martin says:

        It wasn’t even 15 minutes !!
The temperature spiked by 1.7 degrees C to the “new July record” of 36.7 at 14-15.
The temperature remained over 36 degrees for about 2 minutes and by 14-24 it was down to 35 dgrees. Long haul jet passing the Heathrow weather station adjacent to the taxiway ??

The attached graph tells the story:

I think that Tony’s point about officials knowingly using dodgy data is spot on as this “record temperature” was sufficiantly controversial to make the national press in the UK so NOAA should have been aware that it was questionable.

      • QV says:

I may be wrong but I think there were records claimed for other locations on the same day.
Of course the MO claim that there is nothing wrong with Heathrow and it “conforms to WMO guidelines”, despite the fact that July temperatures there have increased by 1c relative to CET since 1948-57.

        • Bloke down the pub says:

From memory, the other records set for that day were for those particular locations for that particular day, something which, by the laws of averages will happen on a regular basis. There was a Spanish plume bringing warm air up from the south east, so it would have been strange if no records had been broken anywhere. The Heathrow ‘record’ was for a July max and was not matched anywhere else.

  2. Justa Joe says:

Pretty slimey how they trumpet any temperature that they can claim is remotely warm even when they have to stretch the truth. It’s so obviously agitprop.

  3. Old'un says:

I remember 1976 well. It was a scorcher, even in Manchester, and we decided to invest in a swimming pool. It was finished just in time for the summer of ’77, which turned out to be more like a normal one. Thereafter English summers were English summers and even with heating, the pool was only usable occasionally between June1st and August 31. I really wish that we had a little global warming here, whatever the cause.

  4. This explains it. I post on a blog where a lot of academics do their work outside during the summer and they are as grumpy as sin. Clearly they’ve had a terrible summer.

  5. inMAGICn says:

Hogwash. 61.86 F is impossibly precise. And “record temperatures in Africa?” The continent is woefully unrecorded with often antique equipment indifferent maintained.

  6. Andy DC says:

Surprising how little change there has been going back 400 years. Where is the climate crisis? Where is the beef?
