In 1989, NOAAs Tom Karl said Earth cooled from 1921 to 1979.
His data now shows half a degree warming during that period.

The more you look into the “official data”, the more skeptical one becomes.

Despite all parameters suggesting no warming for over i8 years, he managed to contrive warming by looking at heat contaminated water in ship intake. He added to that highly speculative infilling and then lowering of temperature in the 1998 El Nino.
Why his statement of cooling from 21 to 78? Records had shown cooling only from 40 to the late 70/s. Was he trying to sell indulgences er ah, carbon credits back then to ward off the coming world ice freeze?
