A Continent In The Deep Freeze

Almost all of Australia is having  a cold winter. Look for the press corpse to completely ignore this, ahead of the repeal of Julia’s big lie.

  1. Anto says:

I only hope that your prediction of the Arctic ice taking a hard right turn is correct, Steve, because the only thing which is going to shake loose the public Emperor’s clothes anytime soon will be abject failure and embarrassment.

Unfortunately, as most of us skeptics say, Earth’s temperature is pretty stable, so I don’t really expect any sudden gross changes – just a steady grind along the long-term average.

Still, a couple of years well below average would set the cat amongst the pigeons, and that’s not out of the question.

    • Send Al to the Pole says:

Well, “the Arctic” will take the hard right turn…. The chart? maybe not. That chart has “climate conniption” baked in.

  2. David says:

Climate is in the Northwest portion everything else is weather.

  3. David says:

So everywhere the global warmers have a conference they encounter record cold. Is there record heat in Vegas?

  4. Truthseeker says:

The correct grammar would be – “A Continent in Deep Freeze”.

  5. DontGetOutMuch says:

Just look at how successful the carbon tax is… /sarc

    • Andy Oz says:

If Alarmists double the carbon tax, it will be twice as cold here (sarc). Most people are complaining bitterly about the cold, except for the privileged ski enthusiasts who have the excess cash to enjoy the Australian Alps. They are having a rip roaring time with record snowfalls.

  6. _Jim says:

An incontinent continent? Contently incontinent temperatures on the continent? Consciously (not while in a state of sleep) and with conscience (weighing good vs bad) concurrently (happening in coincidence with) not coincidentally (it was planned, not by happenstance)?

  8. Shazaam says:

    Where’s the penguin vortex?

    • _Jim says:

Jim McGinn in his Book “Solving Tornadoes: Mastering the Mystery of the Vortex” may have that answer.

      /sarc

PS. Jim McGinn in the above referenced work represents ‘the beginning of the end’ of what little rationality mankind was capable of applying to any given subject. McGinn represents an unusually high order of the Dunning-Kruger effect seldom seen in ‘modern’ internet work; What other authors are to Chemtrails and HAARP mind control Jim McGinn is to understanding (or mis-understanding) tornadoes …

To cite Jim McGinn as an idiot or a moron is to slight idiots and morons.

      .

      • I haven’t read into HAARP particularly, but are chemtrails as potential geo-engineering attempts that implausible?

        • _Jim says:

          a) It’s all bullshit unless they can actually cite first principles in physics to explain how it works.

          b) Couple that with what Albert Einstein said about explanations: “If you can’t explain it to a six year old, you don’t understand it yourself.” Most Conspiracy theorists can’t explain the series circuit operation of a simple two-cell flashlight let alone some phoenom they think they are ‘witnessing’ in the sky …

          .

        • _Jim says:

PS. A budget for HAARP has not been submitted 2015 so operations from the site in Alaska near Gakona are in doubt next year. This year, 2014, there has been only limited activity.

          – – – – –
At the hearing on defense research and innovation, featuring six representatives of the Pentagon, no one said HAARP has a future in the defense budget.

Walker said the Air Force has maintained the site for several years and the last project is one by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). Once completed, the site will close.

DARPA Director Arati Prabhakar said, “The ‘P’ in DARPA is projects. We’re not in the business of doing the same thing forever, so very naturally as we conclude that work, we’re going to move on. It’s not an ongoing need for DARPA despite the fact that we had actually gotten some good value out of that infrastructure in the past,” Prabhakar said.

Walker said the Air Force would like to remove critical equipment this summer to avoid the expense of winterization.

      Would that be a “Peng-nado”??

  9. Tim Whittle says:

    I live in Brisbane, Oz.

It’s pretty chilly, but the weather is gorgeous – we’ve had no rain for quite some time, and that of course is the way of it here. We don’t really have “average” years, we often have either drought or flood. Certainly it has been this cold before, and we DID have a pretty hot Summer, though it was hardly “angry.”

A Class Action against the Government in Queensland is about to commence, on the basis that people were flooded due to the need to release water from the Wivenhoe dam at the height of the flood rain in Feb 2011. The debate in Parliament in the months leading up to this event was all one upmanship, each side saying how much water we needed to keep because it wasn’t going to rain again. Those of us who said that heavy, flooding rain was a characteristic of the La Nina we were in were howled down as heretics.

I look forward to watching the proceedings, though I would bet London to a brick that no one will mention what idiocy it was to listen to Tim Flannery and others. It was their chicanery that led to the event, and Political convenience that facilitated it.

    • Gail Combs says:

Good luck with the Lawsuit Tim. I wish citizens in the USA were free to sue the government. Unfortunately we need to get ‘Permission’ from the government to be able to sue – go figure!

    • Streetcred says:

Gayle … permission granted for collusion. Y’know what I mean !?

  10. Dave N says:

Tell me about it… especially today in Adelaide. With that, and a very one-sided semi-final in the World Cup, I should have stayed in bed.

  11. RossP says:

The Aussie’s have had a visit from Al Gore –poking his nose into domestic Australian politics over the repeal of their carbon tax. Can’t you guys in the USA keep him chained up somewhere ?!?
The interesting thing about the weather/climate down under –Australia has had a cold winter ( by their standards) but here in NZ we’ve had a very mild winter , by our standards.

  12. Tel says:

Zero degrees at my place this morning at 07:30, I don’t see that often. Richmond Air Force base got down to -2.7 which is cold by our standards but not a record breaker.

    • Andy DC says:

It is not unusual for Australia to get a cold snap during winter. What does seem unusual are the repeated cold outbreaks that they are showing over the next week or two.

  13. Rosco says:

A tiny place call Felton in south east Queensland recorded minus 11.7 degrees C yesterday.

Minus 11.7 may not seem extreme to northern hemisphere residents but Felton is located in the sub tropics at ~27 degrees S and less than 500 metres elevation. Think somewhere near Miami and you get the similarity in location on the globe.

I think minus 11.7 is unusual in the “hottest decade on record” when early winter temperatures were mild.

    • Dave N says:

I’m having trouble finding a source of temp info for Felton. The BOM has an official station at Warwick; that one approached a record low on Tuesday.

  14. Brian H says:

“press corpse” — a very appropriate malaprop. Deliberate?
