Those aren’t the ski slopes Bill. The ski area has received more than 20 feet of snow already this winter and the snow is almost nine feet deep.
26 inches of snow in the last three days.
However, in 1976 during the global cooling scare, they did have a shortage of snow.
What a F****** Idiot..
Bill Nye and his ilk always say the stupidest things. Reminds me when David Suzuki said that it’s warm inside your car when the sunlight hits your windshield because there is carbon in the glass. He was trying to tie this to how global warming works. I kid you not. I don’t know how they’re able to produce such special doses of stupidity on a regular basis. It’s quite the superpower liberals have.
And then they turn around and claim we are ‘Anti-science’
Silicon is in IVA too, & it’s probably really easy to confuse those if you’re a drunk entomologist.
He’s no idiot. He’s a paid shill. He’s doin’ what he’s best at – ‘Lyin’ like Brian’.
Bill Nye isn’t the sharpest tool in the shed, but he’s always a tool.
~Half the population is below median intelligence; one picture is worth a thousand words, especially to those challenged by reading and alergic to thinking. “Not a problem” will get no headlines.
It IS worse than we thought!
^- “allergic” to thinking…
“Half the population is below median intelligence”
That’s been one of my favorite sayings for years. I usually say “below average intelligence” because at least half the population doesn’t understand the term median.
AND they vote (shudder) AND they run for office and WIN….
And their vote counts just as much as yours.
Actually in some cases there votes count a lot more often than mine. Voter Fraud
To me , that’s the problem .
If we’re so bright , we should be able to figure out how to convince people that freedom is optimal and the political class with guns and prisons as its tools is dangerous to their welfare .
Bob, we would have to counteract the very well financed and organized groups determined to see the American Experiment fail so they could re-establish tyranny as the ‘correct’ method of ruling. They have been working at the over through of the USA since the country was formed.
Even before the American Banksters setup the Russian Revolution John D. Rockefeller was setting up an experimental school for turning out little braindead socialists.
Y’all be mighty careful with that below average intelligence. Some of the most gullible folks I know have degrees and I reckon scored well on standardized tests. I never understood why it doesn’t translate.
If you wonder, I know they are not paid to be stupid. They do in their leisure time and on their dime.
Plenty of people with a lot of intelligence and problem solving abilities that wouldn’t know how to pour pee out of boot without instructions written on the heel.
The ‘Gruberites’ believe it all
While it has been warmer in the west, it’s been freaking cold here in the Northeast. -17 F this morning and we have yet another big snowstorm coming for this weekend. It is most definitely the coldest winter so far in the 20 years I’ve lived here…
Yeah, 9°F in sunny North Carolina and only a few days over 95°F in the last few years.
All those 100+°F days I remember from 15 to 20 years ago have all been down graded by a couple of degrees of course.
It has been empirically established the Bill Nye is in the “Al Gore” category of “Stupidest Alarmist”.
….. and for all time not just a day. IMO
He is facing stiff competition.
Bill Nye The Douchebag Guy.
Tony…please post the twitter war you are likely to have this weekend with the warmists calling you a fool for claiming that there has been 269″ of snow fall but “only” 94″ of snow depth. I can see the twits’ tweets now…”Goddard claims 20′ of snow and in the same sentence claims not even 8′.”
Just checked out my Ski Report App.
Jackson Hole has all lifts and all trails open. I ignore the base depth info because they all freakin’ lie about that, but the latest postings all talk of good snow.
Here’s one: “Boot to knee deep pow for the last two days. AWESOME!!! Should be good today. THINK POW!!”
Pow is fresh snow to anyone who can’t figure that out.
Here’s another from two days ago “Unreal conditions at jackson hold (sic)”
And, trust me, if the ski conditions are crud, there are oodles of negative reports by pissed off skiers and boarders, so these aren’t cherry picked reports.
I assume that the “Science” guy is going there for a ski vacation, but I doubt he’ll post pictures of the actual ski slopes.
It’s one thing to be a true believer, but nobody can doubt that he’s intentionally trying to mislead on this. Disappointing.
The worst thing about the Bill Nye types is not their ignorance. I have known some people who were dull as a bag of bowling balls, but who were still nice, kind people. The thing that makes Nye so grating is the combination of ignorance with insufferable hubris. He REALLY believes in the inflammability of his climate understanding.
For years the man pretended to be a scientist as part of his children’s entertainment job. He actually began to accept his own make-believe as real. It is pitiful in a way…
Interesting typo….. “inflammability” should be “infallibility.” Proof that I, at least, am not infallible. 🙂
… and hopefully not inflammable either.
Shall we do a scientific test on Nye’s inflammability?
(I used to do open and closed cup flammability test at the first place I worked at after college. )
…….
Nye is not stupid or ignorant. He is much much worse. He is someone who has build up the trust of children and is now INTENTIONALLY lying in order to cause millions if not billions harm and/or death.
Test his inflammability? No… I understand the temptation, but ethics compels me to say no.
But there is one thing that would make the world a better place. There are physiological tests that can be done to distinguish psychopaths from people with normal emotional responses. How about a “P” tattooed on the forehead of everyone who tests psychopathic? Just as a warning to decent folk…
Jason:
I go for a big red “A” tattooed in the middle of the forehead. Then everyone can tell who the A-HOLES are at a glance.
@ rah
Ah, yes. The red badge of scourge
🙂
What’s all that white stuff then?
That’s just a few miles north of a 3 story log home I used to rent when hitting the Tetons and Yellowstone. That Hampton Inn is right by the Albertson’s store where we get our groceries. Apparently Billy has never been to the area, or thinks the lifts are now in downtown JH.
Actually, there is a ski resort in the middle of town, Snow King. They’re reporting all trails open http://snowkingmountain.com/mountainconditions/
Snow King sits south of the southern edge of the city, and is not the same hill as shown in the photo, which is closer to downtown.

Nye needs to keep up with tech resources or will continue to look & be the fool.
Cripes, just looked up his resume.
A BS in Mechanical Engineering. That’s it. So he is about as qualified to authoritatively discuss the climate as my high school biology teacher.
I’m not trying to minimize the degree, but I’d say that most people that post on here can boast of at least a comparable degree
I assume by his whole-hearted embrace AGW that he never had a class where they discussed mass or energy balances like in Chemical Engineering. Or the concept of positive and negative feedbacks like they teach in Chem E and Electrical Engineering.
But he should have had at least one statistics class so he should know better.
Why would ANYONE have him on ANY show discussing things beyond what temper water boils?
“temperature water boils”. Let my temperture get the better of me there.
I doubt he had any statistics courses.
Statistics is learned if one actually uses that mechanical engineering degree to make products. Six sigma, tolerance analysis, and more. But as a course it’s not part of BSME. Although it can show up in other courses. If not there It’s one of those things you’re expected to learn on your own time or on the job.
That is why I took the stat courses. I worked as an analytical lab manager in various manufacturing plants.
Nothing bad to say about mechanical engineers. I’m fairly certain Bill got his degree through lots of extra credit work, like cleaning the teachers glans or something.
With a user name like you’re you’re going to make that joke?
I’m not sure what’s so silly about being Powerful and Viscous. You should try it some time.
My knowledge of German is limited. A little knowledge is a dangerous thing
I interpreted your name literally as “Strong thick flow/fluid” Didn’t know dickfluessig meant viscous. Thought it was a cross-language reference to a portion of the male anatomy that is used to run fluids through.
No disrespect to your moniker intended. Nor to an ME degree.
Just to the Bill Nye guy.
And I got a VERY vivid image when “strong dick flow” passed through my brain at the same time that I was reading about BN cleaning someone’s glans.
I am not sure about now, but at least when I was in school, statistics was barely mentioned in an hour lecture in Analytical Chemistry. I took my stat course several years after I graduated.
When i got my engeneering BS around 1990 we had to take statistics as well as the economics of engineering (basic economic stuff like dimishing returns, etc.)
Dave, nice to hear they are now including statistics.
Of course when I did the one bit of statistics in a Psych course we had to calculate the standard deviation by hand. No calculators just slipsticks. I spent the entire easter vacation doing the calculations that now can be done with a computer in a few minutes.
I thought for sure dickflussig was german for dental floss but for … well you know 😉
I’ll have to remember that the next time someone cites Bill Nye. In that contest I win. (BS and MS in ME)
Nothing wrong with an ME education if you use it correctly. Math through diff eq., courses in physics, thermodynamics, maybe fluids. Maybe not enough to do active research in climate, but at least make reasonable judgements on published stuff. /the fact that he screws it up so badly makes me wonder what his gpa was.
I think I recognize the hillside in his photo as a sw facing slope alongside US 191 S of town. That way it catches the pm sunshine which cooks of the snow.
Phil of Windsor
Bill Nye plays a scientist on TV.
Billy’s bow tie must be a bit too tight and is cutting off circulation to his brain cell that asseses reality.
Bill Nye is why I didn’t renew my Planetary Society membership after decades of being a member. He was appointed CEO after Loius Friedman retired.
Same here.
And I too am shocked at his ignorance and profound lack of curiosity regarding actual data and temperature records. He is either very stupid on some level, or dishonest. Could be both.
Both .
“He is either very stupid on some level”
On EVERY level !!
I suspect they won’t be happy if it negatively affects their ski bookings or tourist income, so I sent the Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce his tweet. 🙂
Please consider similarly informing the ski resorts themselves as well. They are well situated to know how much snow is actually on those slopes, and they also likely have an interest in seeing that the Buffoon Guy not spread misinformation about their current status.
Well, spreading misinformation about the amount of snow they have is something the resorts specialize in.
Only they approach their misinformation from the other side.
“Plenty of beautiful well-groomed snow, come visit us.” (loosly translated to “icy crud with plenty of exposed rocks to destroy the bottom of your board with”)
So I don’t feel sorry for the resorts on this one. They’ve been trying to mislead me for years.
I don’t blame them. We all need to eat. And at least they have a motivation besides trying to destroy our capitalist system.
“loosely” not “loosly” Crap, my internal spellchecker is broken today. I’m not correcting any more.
Under “believe it or not” is the fact that at Snoqualamie Pass one of the ski areas was named “Rocky Run.” Now that’s marketing for you. (The name has been changed to protect the innocent.)
Vying? Bill Nye’s running miles ahead of the whole pack of half-wits. How could anybody deny him the prize after this?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sm05Mcah0i8
Here, our distinguished and oh-so sciency scientific guy snorts with righteous derision at 3:45:
Even in the bizarre global warming sect it’s hard to find a more deserving Moron Prize recipient.
Climate Prat of 2014 – We have a winnah!
Oh. My. Word. Even my children know that the IPCC got a Nobel PEACE Prize…NOT a Nobel in science!!! And he thinks they didn’t discover climate change” until 2006-07???
Every time he opens his mouth lately, I mourn the moments of every childhood that were lost watching his television show.
OMG….and consider that a prayer.
Their award had zero to do with science.
Northern Utah has been pretty balmy since the new year. It was bitterly cold during the “Warmest December Evah!” though. I would say that was definitely the coldest and windiest stretch during at least the last 5 years. We have gotten a pretty good amount of precipitation so far, with rain in the valleys and snow in the mountains which is perfect as far as I’m concerned.
Overall the snowpack is at 85% of normal, which is remarkable given the “Worst Drought Evah!” in California.
Cold E o ’14 here in Teller County , CO , too .
Would have been hell w/o that 0.5c warming since the ’70s .
He is so dishonest. He takes the picture from miles away of a small hill facing south and then says the lack of snow is global warming. Bull shit.
Looks like a land fill to me.
Anyway Bill Nye is a very well paid for being a TV intellectual to justify government power. He’s not stupid, he’s just doing what is best for his bottom line. He earns a very comfortable living by doing things like this.
“TV intellectual”
OK, OK…. wait…. I’m having trouble with that concept.
Is that some kind of politically correct terminology for “unsalvageable idiot”?
These people are not idiots. They intentionally mislead the masses because that is what they are paid very well to do. Throughout human history the ruling class has employed intellectuals to justify what the political class wants. This priest class of the modern era consists of various experts. The front line of these experts appear on TV and write for mainstream publications, books, etc.
Sometimes these people have an established record before they got such gainful careers. They often have written and said vastly different things before they got paid well to be on the front line of manipulating public opinion or misleading people or otherwise serving power.
In another era Bill Nye and others would be bullshitting us that eclipses were the snake god eating the sun and if we made enough sacrifice, obeyed sufficiently, the sun would be spared and return.
The long lasting Aristocracies have always had the Shaman/Priest class to back them up. The divine right of kings and all that rot. The Holy Roman Empire and the satellite aristocracy had been in place for a thousand years. In December of 800, Pope Leo III crowned the Frankish king Charlemagne as Emperor. Emperor Francis II dissolved the empire on 6 August 1806, after its defeat by Napoleon at the Battle of Austerlitz.
With the rise of the middle class and the revolutions starting in the latter half of the 1700s a new ‘religion’ was need to control the masses espcially since the American Constitution separated Church and State.. Marxism is that new religion link
“… This is a big deal! They discovered climate change, through all kinds of evidence!”
And here all this time I thought it was the Serbian mathematician, Milutin Milankovitch, and the scientists who found real world evidence, Emiliani, Kukla, Hays, Imbrie and Shackleton.
Bill can’t hold a job in the private sector so it’s gubment cheeze to the rescue.
Bill Nye’s experiment here has to be one of his nuttiest ever. Watch it close and look at all the mistakes and lies.

I never knew we lived inside a glass jar.
This week Between Sunday morning and Friday afternoon I drove through IN, OH, PA, NY, MA, CT, NJ, the SE part of MI, and Ontario Canada from Windsor to north of Toronto and then down the Burlington (Just north of Hamilton). I used about 3 gallons of windshield washer fluid this week.
There was significant snow cover everywhere I drove including all the way across the NY and MA turnpikes and the PA turnpike. Drove through 300 mi of heavy winter weather on Monday out east. Then on Wednesday afternoon and evening on my way up to Canada drove through some more rough winter conditions in Indiana and Ohio and some more along the 401 in Ontario. To give you an idea how deep the snow was along the 401 in SW Ontario I saw a newer jeep Wrangler that had slid off and was stuck. Looked like it was high centered on the snow. The least snow cover I noticed this week was the wind blown farm country west of Dayton, OH along I-70 where the corn stubble was clearly visible and there were bare patches.
Perhaps Bill Nye should ride with me? No, scratch that idea. I don’t want the passenger seat in my nice new Freight Liner soiled. Three weeks ago when I moved into the new truck it had 76 mi on it. It now has 10,272 mi. and has yet to run a road south of I-70/ I-76 or West of Indianapolis. I’m thankful that I’ve been running on new Michelin tires during the worst of this winter. It’s hard to over stress the importance of having good rubber in such conditions.
Sunday picked up in Anderson, IN and delivered in Enfield, CT on Monday. Tuesday picked up at Pottstown, PA and delivered in Anderson, IN. Wednesday picked up in Anderson, IN and delivered in Bolton, ON Thursday and then picked up in Burlington, ON and delivered in Romulus, MI. Friday picked up in Mishawaka, IN and delivered in Anderson, IN.
Put Bill Nye in diapers and a rubber suit, gag him and strap him in good and tight. If he hasn’t gone completely round the bend by the time you are finished he just might believe there is snow on the ground in the USA.
I might be me that would go completely around the bend with that sucker in my truck!
Compensations for such driving that makes it worth it besides the pay? Black Amish buggies being pulled by beautiful black horses trotting through the snow on the shoulders of the Hwys in Northern Indiana. And seeing an Amish grandma in her snow covered yard dressed in a black outfit with long dress topped off with a black bonnet. There was a breeze blowing and her long dress flowing in it. What was she doing? Picking up sticks!
The ice and snow covered lakes and the whole pristine cold picture it all paints.
Seeing another trucker pull 4 basset hounds out of his truck to walk them.
On the down side the full moon apparently brought out the worst in some people. Lots of crashes. Had to detour my route twice this week to get around severe crashes with miles of back up behind them and passed three others on the other side of the interstate. Every one of them involved big trucks.
rah that is why I suggested the gag and rubber suit…
rah, did you see this Estes truck driver’s astounding black-ice stunt on the NJ Turnpike?

The gentleman with the camera stays admirably calm during the crash. The money quote is at 0:46:
He must have determined he’s drawn his share of luck for the day. Here he comes back to check on the trucker after calling 911:

Nope that is the first I’ve seen of it. That’s a nightmare scenario. No matter what though it will almost certainly be deemed driver error. That’s just the way it is.
Yep, not adjusting speed to the conditions on the road.
Recently, I was able to avoid a collision in Boulder. Going about 25 MPH on an icy but completely clear street, late in the evening, when a minivan began creeping onto it from the right (violating right of way). I started braking immediately, probably at 0.5 sec, as soon as he started moving in. I thought he intended to “dart” across to my left but when he was fully in my lane he slowed down instead! I did not want to go left because he was still moving and the snow slush was deep on my right—it would have pulled me badly if I got into it. I reckon my instinctive reaction was to stay straight on the slippery but level surface in the middle, brake for as long as I have runway and if needed find an escape path through the slush at the slowest speed possible. By the time I was on top of him he made it to my left and cleared my lane but I also came to a full stop. He just drove off.
It made me think how the cops would have judged it.
http://i1363.photobucket.com/albums/r707/ColoradoWellington/React%20amp%20Brake%20on%20Snow%20amp%20Ice_zpslbpzcgwo.gif
Last winter while Bob Tailing in heavy weather I was cut off by a 4-wheeler going through Columbus, OH and I intentionally cut into the about 2′ of deep snow in the unplowed left lane to both slow down and avoid the idiot. If you know whats under the snow you can use it to help as a brake. The problem is that conditions can change so quickly and no matter how far ahead you drive and how much you anticipate people do really stupid things. But for a big truck driver the bottom line is that there is no benefit of the doubt. your wrong until proven innocent. That is why I’m getting a Go-Pro dash cam. It has a lot more potential to help me than to hurt me in a Court of Law.
Kudos. I know bobtailing in heavy weather is two strikes against you already. Getting cut off like that shows than bad luck comes in threes. I’ve seen truckers use heavy snow to slow down but never in a tractor alone.
I know you appreciate how quickly things happen. The road in my recent incident looked so quiet and abandoned. When he appeared and started moving in I think I went from Jeff Cooper’s Yellow to Red in less than a second. The whole thing was over in 4 seconds.
I watched my dash cam recording several times to see what I can learn from it: The biggest lesson was a reinforcement of what I already knew: Be alert, react early, and stay calm if you can. The other lesson was seeing the possible escape routes and alternatives that we tend to miss due to the crisis moment’s tunnel vision.
I can think of circumstances when your dash cam video could be taken from you and used against you but on balance I believe it’s a major advantage to have a recording of an accident or another incident.
To avoid the worst requires constant scanning of the mirrors and trying to keep a way out available. There have been times I have avoided an accident because I was scanning my mirrors and had a very good idea what was around me so I could jerk into another lane to avoid collision without even taking the split second to look. That is not to say that there aren’t times they sneak up on me. Under normal circumstances I check all three mirrors on that side and signal a good 5 second minimum before a lane change. Total time from signaling to completion of the change should be about 10 seconds.
That trip I Bob tailed from Anderson to Camp Hill, PA (Near Harrisburg) to recover a trailer. Over east of Wheeling, WV on that same run I crabbed up the big hill (There is a Cabela Outfitters store there at the top) despite having my interlock on so both axles were driving and having just fueled to get as much weight on as possible.
When I got to the facility at Camp Hill where the trailer was and it was locked up! Man I was pissed. Such a damned emergency that I had to go get this trailer that had been sitting there for over a month during bad weather and there was nobody there! I pulled in front the locked gate, set my brakes, pulled the curtains, and went to sleep. Three hours later a guard showed up banging on my door and asked me what the hell I was doing. Then I finally got the trailer and was so thankful that after sitting there in very cold weather the brakes were free and everything checked out.
I told my boss after that one that under similar circumstances next time I would refuse if he asked. I had crossed that fine line between hardcore and stupid that time and knew it.
Jonathan Gruber, Brian Williams, Bill Nye, Al Sharpton….. What’s the difference? Eventually, the time will come when people will grow tired of the propaganda and demand the truth.
I really doubt it. People will just get poor and poor and look around and wonder why the country is head downhill while insisting the government pass more ‘social justice laws’
One day, (sooner rather than latter)

Thought this might interest some of you here. Testing the F-35 for all climate conditions is about complete. https://www.f35.com/news/detail/f-35-lightning-ii-nears-completion-of-all-weather-climatic-testing
In what seems like another life time now as an SF medic on a team in 3rd Bn., 10th SFG(A) in the early 80s I was involved in testing the extreme cold weather clothing package the US Army still uses today. Back then we were stationed at the now closed Ft. Devens, MA which was not far from Natick Labs that develop and test all kinds of technology for the US military including clothing. So, being a unit oriented towards winter and alpine warfare located only 30 miles or so from where the stuff was being developed, we were the natural choice for testing the Army’s new cold weather package. Over a period of three years we used prototypes of the clothing and various different boots and shelters. Adjustments were made based on surveys we filled out and suggestions we made until the final version of the Gortex outer parka and trousers, Patagonia Pile jacket and trousers, and heavy and lighter types of the polypropylene under garments were deemed suitable for general issue.
As a medic I was also sent TDY for a month to test some of the stuff at Burrow Alaska.
I will tell you that no matter what happens in the eventual procurement process down the line, the folks at Natick we were Guinea pigs for are truly dedicated to providing the best for the troops.
Yes Natick Labs is a good bunch. I was in Leominster while you were at Devens BTW.
No shortage of idiots when it comes to our climate. Watching FoxNews yesterday, Lauren Greene repeats “2014 the hottest year ever” while talking about a variety of issues. I’m sick of all these ignorant reporters parroting what they hear from someone without going and checking the facts themselves. I love Bill O’Reilly but he does it when it comes to AGW too and it makes him look very unprofessional. Bad enough when the average idiot in the street doesn’t have a clue, you would think Ivy League educated reporters would know how to fact check any story that comes their way.
They are getting some rain at the lower elevations due to that warm tropical moisture stream that came through California yesterday (Pineapple Express) and likely to get another shot of it on Monday, I think. Jet has turned more zonal across the NW US.
You may ridicule Mr. Nye all you want for his intellectual rigor and acuity, but he will still be pretty!
Don’t you know –
Little snow = Climate Change.
A lot of snow = Weather.
I AM A MECHANICAL ENGINEER. Bill Nye = NOT a real mechanical engineer. He offends all true engineers by his nitwittery. The truth about Mechanical Engineers is that the vast majority of them do their work with total scientific competency every single day for years and decades on end. The fact that we are all out here on the great wide internets clicking away at our liesure is overwhelming evidence of that.
A true Mechanical Engineer may actually be the ideal professional to examine the climate and recommend policies. When somebody first told me about AGW in 2009 and expected me to be afraid, I thought, “AGW can’t be right, because there’s just GOBS of sun and water!”. Then I looked up the T-s diagram for water, on p.900 of my thermodynamics book, did some calculations, and confirmed to my own satisfaction, as a person who earns a living as an engineer, that the sun and the oceans are maintaining a global energy balance and temperature equilibrium that could not possibly be disrupted by people, at least not with the technology we currently have.
