RICO was always an over-reaching law in the first place.
It was designed to take down the mob (a gross oversimplification) because the higher ups could deny responsibility for their underling’s actions.
It’s a classic case illustrating the folly of giving up a little freedom to secure more safety.
It’s been used by the left to penalize organizations that are opposed to abortion and as a tactic to keep a baseball team from moving.
Even if an RICO attempt eventually fails in the court, imagine the ruinous legal fees that guys like Tony and the WUWT guys would have to pony up. To prove their innocence. And the fact that future skeptics would have to balance the costs of throwing in the towel against the against the riskof financial ruin.
You can see the forerunner of this in Mann vs National Review (a non RICO action) a lawsuit based on an article that criticized Manns work and satirically compared him to Jerry Sandusky (poor taste, but actionable?). The want a legal ruling that AGW is a scientific fact.
And the left is foaming at the mouth to use RICO on our vast right-wing, fossil fueled conspiracy. I do a little lurking on the pro-AGW sites and those guys can’t wait to see it used.

When I say it WILL happen I mean that I believe someone will try it, not that it’ll be successful or go anywhere. The intimidation is what counts. Luckily you seem to be impervious to that.
The cases against Tom Delay and Ted Stevens come to mind, as well as the indictments against Governor Rick Perry (and Stevens’ was charged by the Feds, not an Austin kangaroo court).
To prosecute a RICO case there would have to be evidence of money, organizational ties and knowledge of wrongdoing. None of those three things have any relevance to the skeptic community

I thoroughly agree with this letter to the president. All twenty signers should be prosecuted under the RICO statutes for conspiracy to defraud the American people for their own personal gain. When another neighbor down the road, a forester, reported a M.J. plantation to the local police he could not leave his driveway with out getting pulled over by the cops and issued a warning or traffic ticket.

Thanks to our (government controlled) school system, the average person on the street thinks “rule of law” means exactly the opposite of what it really means. It’s shocking how many believe it means that we have to do whatever Obammy says, because he’s the law.
