   I did enjoy that last paragraph –

   Another result of the heat has been a plague of vipers in the Lower Alps. Many vinegrowers have been bitten, and now tourists go on excursions and peasants start to work provided with bottles of brandy as an antidote for bites.

   I’m sure that brandy was only consumed because of bites…
