The Union of Concerned Scientists says that winters in the Northeast are becoming warmer and less snowy.
There has been no long term change in Northeast US winter temperatures, and parts of the Northeast just had their snowiest winter on record.
This is what the first day of spring looked like just north of DC across the street from my apartment.
DC cherry blossoms are forecast to be the latest on record this year.
The Union of Concerned Scientists raises money by fear mongering nonsense. Nothing to do with science.
It is outright fraud, unscientific, and irresponsible what these supposed scientists are spouting. The title of their organization, “Union of CONCERNED Scientists,” says it all. It is not the science method but a social agenda that is at the top of their priority list.
Yep…. I remember a “Scientific” article tying DC’s Cherry Trees to Global Warming… a few moderate winters in a row and of course the Tree’s will bloom earlier than “normal”… whatever “normal” is these days…
This year I wonder if those same Alarmist hoxers will address Washington’s Cherry Tree’s blossoming late, very late…
Ah, what am I thinking .. I already know the answer… the trees will bloom late … perhaps set the record (April 18th 1958) and this will be ignored in terms of Global Warming… or perhaps hyped in terms of “Climate Change”… see?? See what we’re doing with all this Mann-Made CO2 and greenhouse pollution!!

So according to them, our average NH climate is represented by the LGM 21k years ago when the Laurentide Ice Sheet covered most of our continent. Got it. Damn that Fred Flintstone and his carbon “footprint” powered SUV. We’d be naturally covered in ice right now if it wasn’t for him unless the Neanderthals started the whole mess earlier by discovering fire.
Our forsythia, daffys, narcissus, bradford pear, apples, and cherries are all blooming FINALLY. Leaves have not yet appeared and I am in md NC where I have seen forsythia bloom in mid February.
Actually the daffys on my farm have yet to bloom. only the ones gone wild near blacktop roads are blooming.
Freezing cold here, more snow, tomorrow will go back down to near zero again. High tomorrow will be barely above 20ºF which is January temperatures.

I had heard that most UCS members have screwy vision issues, which led to mis-reading climate papers and data. Now I can see why. However, I agree with his recommendation.

Here is where you went wrong. Only century old trees in Siberia can be used as a climate proxy. The trees and plants in one’s own yard, town or city cannot be assumed to be representative of climate conditions. For only a well trained climatologist can made such observations and the first principle of doing so is to not count any observation that negates the preconceived conclusion.
Obviously their Ivory Towers do not have windows. Might need to have a contractor look into this.

Using the NCDC data (the adjusted version) actually shows a cooling trend for Northeast US winters, using the last thiry years of data. Ironic in the extreme.
Looks like there is a serious issue with educating the cherry trees about global warming. It seems the tree blossoms refuse to perform as predicted by those computer-generated fantasy climate models.
You just can’t fool those cherry trees.
Used to be common for forsythia to be blooming around DC on St. Patrick’s day, now not a blossom in sight. With below normal forecast for the next couple of weeks, the 1958 record for the cherry blossoms may be in serious jeopardy.
Three years ago, after a very mild winter, the alarmists thought they had a live one with the cherry blossoms. Time to throw that one under the bus and look for another one like Cyclone Pam, 10,000 miles away.
If and when there is a mild winter and/or warm enough temperatures in early March, then the forsythia will bloom, one again, by St Patrick’s Day.
Amazing things, these living organisms known as plants and trees: They seem to have the ability to actually sense what the weather is like, and adjust accordingly.
In this way, they seem to be far more highly evolved than the organisms known as “climate scientists”, who decide what they are going to do ahead of time and have no ability to sense what is actually happening.
Years ago I read a very interesting study that suggested trees are sensitive to solar cycles. I still kick myself today for not acquiring a copy.
These people could say the snow today is warmer than it used to be, because of “climate change”, and plenty of idiots would believe it.

It is important to know just how exclusive an organization this is, and how stringent are their requirements for membership in the Union of Concerned Scientists.
To become a member one must first send them a check for at least $25. Then, one must also have a degree in…oh, wait…um, no never mind…no degree needed.
All you have to do is have expertise in…oh, wait again…nope, no expertise in anything needed. Just the check. That’ll do ya!
